I just got back from the doctor,he say the echocardiogram reveals Aortic Stenosis, narrowing of the valve. However,I have no symptoms of this, and so he is scheduling me for a visit to the cardiologist.

I have done some research on the heart and this problem,in the long run valve replacement is usually the way to go.

I need to wait and see what the cardiologist will recommend. That's it for now.

Blueblades, trying not to be anxious.

    May you have peace.

Have courage... I'm sure everything will be fine. Not to dismiss your worries, but it is a fairly common procedure (I've had two friends who had similar surgery) and it usually goes quite well.

    Be brave...

    Thank goodness for the internet.

    SCULLY??

Anyways, she may know a site or info regarding this, but more than likely you're going to carry on with educating yourself regarding aortic stenosis.

I have to admit, when I read those two words, my toenails curled under.

BUT.....the good thing, you're on top of this situation, and by jimminy-cricket - this aortic stenosis condition can be remedied.

Tons of info on-line about such things, and I've been reading up on matters of special interest to me. I have a medical dictionary, but it's already 10 years old, and oddly enough, 10 years, so much in the way of new techniques and proceedures have come about.

I wish you well: I do mean that.

Take care of yourself, and stay on top of this, and let us know if/when you are going in for this proceedure to correct the aortic stenosis.

    Best to you Blueblades.

Cardiology isn't my specialty at all, so I really don't feel qualified to offer any suggestions, other than to check out some information on reputable websites.

    www.medscape.com (you'll need to register)

In the search criteria, type in aortic+stenosis so the search engine will find all the articles for aortic stenosis, rather than just separate incidences of each word that may or may not appear in the same article.

I'll do some checking later and see if I come up with anything that could be helpful.

Blueblades... I wish you the best of luck and fast healing in what you have to go through. Not to minimize any health condition someone may have, valve replacement really is one of the better ways to go and has very few consequences/side effects so to say. It is pretty common these days, however, I'm not sure if they still use pigs heart valves or mechanical ones now.

Take care and please let us know how you are doing!

I too have aortic stenosis. According to my doctor, everyone no matter how large or small in frame has the smae size valve. 2 centimeters. He said that Ian operation isn't needed util it closes to 8 centimeters. Thats when it goes into the critical stage. The two replacements are a pig valve and a mechanical one. The problem with the pig valve is that it also will start to calcify and because of that will only last about 10 years ( according to my doctor). A metal valve should last about 20 years. He told me that the most a valve would close is about 1 centimeter a year. My valve is calcifing, I don't know if this what you have, but I hope this information is helpful to you. I wish you the best.
