Nathan said: Watchtower dogma is completely open-ended on the matter of the continuation of the anointed 144,000 into the future - although they said the ranks were sealed in 1935, they have the dogmatic "escape clause" that says that when individual members of the 144K fail and turn apostate, they are "replaced."

The apstacy rate must be very high for these remaining anointed since according to mortality charts people in this age range have an extremely high and increasing mortality. If the remnant average 85 years of age then over 10% should die this year. The percentage increases each year (for example15% of 90 year olds die before their 91st uncelebrated birthday.). An over 10% per year apostacy rate is a high apostacy rate and makes one wonder why Jesus selected such weak faith individuals.

As has been pointed out before, in some years the number of partakes has increased hense these persons if truel anointed must be replacements for dead anointed who went apostate on the other side of the veil.

In order for the number of anointed still alive to remain steady which it has done for decades, the number of replacements must be approximately the same as those who die.

Unless it can be shown that lots of living elderly anointed leave each year (does anyone see this?), one whold have to speculate that virtually all the apostates are those who die and are replaced by newbies. Thus an almost 100% apostacy rate eventually occurrs as almost all of the dead are replaced by newbies, which has to be happening as the numbers of anointed are basically level even though many die each year and relatively few of the anointed seem to be disassociating themselves (correct me if I am wrong).

Such high apostacy rates approaching an eventual 100% if the numbers of anointed continue to remain level, are hardly a faithful and discreet population!

Actually, I've noticed that lately JWs are denying that 1935 was ever set out as a "cutoff" date. They are stating now that 1935 was the date that they realized that there were many JWs who didn't feel the heavenly "calling" and that they simply realized that there would be an earthly class.

According to what they're claiming now, there is no need to say that new anointed ones are replacements, since they claim that the anointed class was never closed.

16 Some may have concluded that they have the heavenly calling because they have acquired considerable Bible knowledge. But spirit anointing does not bring extraordinary understanding, for Paul had to instruct and counsel certain anointed ones. (1 Corinthians 3:1-3; Hebrews 5:11-14) God has an arrangement for providing spiritual food for all his people. (Matthew 24:45-47) So nobody should think that being an anointed Christian gives him wisdom superior to that of those having the earthly hope. Spirit anointing is not indicated by proficiency in answering Scriptural questions, witnessing, or giving Bible talks. Christians with the earthly hope also do well in these respects.

ummm, I thought that the anointed remnant made up the faithful and discreet slave class? According to WTS doctrine, it's the FDS that imparts knowledge and understanding of scripture to the great crowd. This article states othewise. This places the Governing Body as the only source of knowledge. This goes against all that has been taught for decades.

I see your point. If there is 8,000 anointed left and the WT claims that the number of anointed has been now being sealed or finalized, that number should slowly go down. For example, if 100 of those anointed die, you would have 7,900 left but if the next year it increases say to 8,100 then there would be a plus of 200 more anointed members. So if we follow the GB logic, 200 were apostates??? It doesn't add up. The most there could be is 100... and if we give them the benefit of the doubt they are saying that all the anointed ones that die were apostate!!!

This has become a very embarassing issue for the Watchtower Society. A few years ago, a number of younger JWs felt they were of the "annointed" and began to partake of the emblems at the Memorial. The Watchtower addressed this by stressing the seriousness of this step and emphasized that the "calling" was generally concluded. On the other hand, it could not forbid individuals from partaking as the scripture was clear that God alone was the one selecting this class.

This now puts the Society in a very awkward position. As mentioned above, the Watchtower taught that only when an "annointed" person became unfaithful would Jehovah select a substitute. It became apparent that many of the "annointed" were becoming unfaithful. And yet this was not reflected in the individual congregations who still had old members partaking. So the Watchtower has taken the prudent course of keeping quiet about this obvious contradiction.
