Has anyone seen the article, Young People Ask........Do I need a mobile phone? This is on the Home Page of the society. www.watchtower.org

Jesus stated the wise principle that one should "calculate the expense" before undertaking an important project. (Luke 14:28) Can that principle be applied to mobile phones? Certainly. Now you may be able to get the phone itself at very little cost, or it may even be free. However, as 17-year-old Henna discovered, "the bill can suddenly get very high." There can also be constant pressure to keep up with additional services and to buy more-expensive models. I think this is so stupid. Yes stupid. The organization ties in scriptures about mobile phone. Another control tactic. I guess if you spend your money on mobile phones you can't give that money to the society. The rest of the article is stupid to.

If they are not expecting a crucial call, many choose to turn off their phone, or they switch to a silent mode when engaging in essential activities. Some put their mobile phone out of reach. After all, cannot most messages be attended to later?

    Idiots!

From the site www.nosferatu.org (may not exist):

Jesus stated the wise principle that one should "calculate the expense" before undertaking an important project. (Luke 14:28) Can that principle be applied to wiping one's ass? Certainly. Now, toilet paper may seem cheap, but after months, even years of using it, the cost adds up. 17 year old Henna got caught up in materialism by purchasing toilet paper with two or more ply. "Wiping one's ass may also lead to other costs such as a high water bill from flushing the toilet" says Henna. What the hell kind of name is Henna?

my son and I were reading this article on line last week ( someone else had posted a thread here about it ), and the thing we found most interesting about these types of articles, is the negative slant the society puts on them. Anytime they write these, they only focus on the negative, never the positive. In this particular one, they say at the beginning, "while there may be benefits to owning a cell phone......", then they tell you all the negative stuff ( like text messaging members of the opposite sex, spending too much time, etc ), and not once do they tell you even one benefit. Pretty slanted imo.

It's funny, that when I clicked on this thread, the ads at the top of the page were for cell phones. LOL.

If the Society really wanted to be 'balanced' about this subject, they would have recommended PREPAID PHONES as an alternative to expensive service contracts.

It's funny how the society tries to look out for the welfare of children who use cell phones. BUT, when a child gets molested all they can ask is "were there 2 witnesses who saw what happened to you?". They don't realize that with the numbers of child abuse cases increasing in the org, these kids might need cell phones after all to call the cops after some pervert in their congregation makes a move on them.

Instead of wasting their resources on printing useless articles, they should devote an article on how they plan on tackling the crisis they face as shown in silentlambs.org.

The majority of witnesses going from door to door don't realize that such a problem even exists. I can't imagine how a JW would react if someone pulled out a copy of a court document where the WTS is getting nailed for covering up child abuse.

I thinks it's time that we take this to the next level and truly organize to wake up the old men sitting at the Watchtower. BOO-YAA!

Seems the Society didn't 'count the cost' of their sicko policy re child molesters, as evidenced by all the dosh they've had to fork out in out-of-court settlements (and gag orders) to victims.
