here's one way to deal with illegal imigrants

  The UK is never going to crack down on illegal immigrants because they are an essential part of our economy. They do seasonal work picking flowers, hops, mushrooms, etc for a mere pittance that no citizen would accept. They work staggeringly long hours in restaurants for peanuts. They have no security whatsoever. For that reason, they do all the nasty stuff that we don't want to bother with. Consequently, unless we are prepared to accept massive price rises that would come if the jobs they did were actually state-approved and therefore subject to humanitarian controls, we are stuck with them.

  The long term view is that these people eventually become discontented with their lot and before you know it we have another problem with yet another ethnic minority.

  That's capitalism for you!

  I know this is a UK issue, but this is a similar problem in the USA.

  I cannot see why people are sticking up for illegals. The illegal immigrants make the efforts of what me and my family did null and void. Almost 30 years ago, my family picked up their roots from the Carribean and came to the USA, poor, destitute and working at White Castle for money. Today, my brother's a computer technician, I'm studying to be a real estate agent and my uncle is an accountant.

  We worked f***king hard to become a part of the establishment here. My dad had to jump through hoops to become first an alien resident and then even more hoops to become a citizen. We weren't coddled by these feel good liberal institutions that help legal immigrants, we had to do it on our own!

  These illegal aliens mock the hard work me, my mom, my dad, my brother, and all of my relatives did to become a part of this country. It's telling everybody that all they have to do to become an American is to either be a very good hider or a very good swimmer, and that's not the way we did it!

  Ship 'em all back to where they were, and tell them to learn how to do it the legal way!

  bossi retrackted his statement the following day! he said he didn't mean it literally.

  immigration is a problem if there are not enough jobs and housing for the newcomers. the best quick way to deal with this is to send them back in the respective country. the ultimate solution is to help the poor countries to become economically independant.

  I saw how your family picked themselves up from humble beginnings in a South Minneapolis apartment to get to where they are today. They set you a good example in that regard.

  It reminds those of us who were born with citizenship privileges to appreciate the freedoms and opportunities that were handed down to us.

  I have issues with the term "illegal immigrant".

  How come when it you are a guy with many guns and you over-run a bunch of un-armed, peaceful natives... you are termed an "explorer" and praised as the "discoverer of America"??

  But four hundred years later... and some guy is RUNNING from many guys, with many guns, and they come seeking assylum.... he is termed "illegal immigrants"??

  I guess if the Native Americans had that Idea about shooting 'em on sight.... it woulda been a whole lot different though huh?

  But... what do I know... I married one of those damn British "aliens" and she is stealing some poor American's Job, because she had the education and mental skills to succeed in Corporate Business. JMO
