Should the U.S. Release Photos of the Hussein Son's?

My *personal* opinion is that they should because the people of Iraq will probably require some proof. I don't have any interest in seeing the photos but I believe that their photos will spread throughout the internet and the news media and curiosity will eventually cause me to peek at the photos. Don't know why I would have interest in seeing a couple of lifeless bodies though.

Anyway, what is your opinion? Also, do you want to see the photos?

I think they should sell the bodies on ebay.

I can't help but think of the way the US complained about the Iraqi army showing dead US military personnel and prisoners. Yes, it was very distasteful.

Now granted, those two sons of Saddam have hurt an a lot of people... torture and murders beyond description, but I'm not sure if this is cause for breaking one of out own moral codes: Do not parade the dead or captured making them a public spectacle. If someone demands proof of their death, then by all means send them the required evidence, but making them a spectacle is crossing the line.

If we are to hold our enemies to a certain level of conduct, we ourselves should be willing to do the same. Bottom line is this, our enemies want to parade our dead around, and it looks like our government wants to parade their dead around. Either way, it is wrong and barbaric.

First, if it will help the situation then do it, remember what the Itailians did to Mousilini (sp?). Also, that former Eastern European dictator that they showed his execution on tv, I believe it was romainia. Sometimes when people have been living under the heel of a dictator they need to see him hung from a pole to completly break their chains.

Second, most Americans were upset over the mistreatment of Americans on camera. If the Iraqis had shown pictures of American POW's that were obviously being well treated I dont think many Americans would have cared. The point being was that the issue was not American POW's being shown it was the mistreatment (real or precieved) of Americans that was the issue.

Third, dont compare apples and oranges. Saddams demon seeds are not normal soilders. I would definitally agree that normal iraqi soilders should never be shown in a humiliating light. These guys are a special case. Put their heads on sticks if it will help.

To add to Elsewhere's comments, I believe the US is looking into whether it's against the Geneva convention as well.

It will not surprise me if suddenly there is a break-in by an anti-Saddam faction who then steals copies of the photos and releases them for viewing. That way the US gets to have their way of showing the Iraqis that these guys are dead while still looking innocent in the matter. Or, there was an Iraqi photographer who got a few pictures before the area was completely secured.

At any rate, the photos will be published.

I, like Elsewhere, cannot help but remember a few short months ago how the United States government was crying foul when the Iraqis displayed United States soldiers killed in combat.

If we are to hold our enemies to a certain level of conduct, we ourselves should be willing to do the same.

Now the situation is reversed. I sincerely hope that they do not make this public. If they choose to post pictures and video for public consumption, then it will just be another example of the blatant hypocrisy of the United States government.

Did I miss something? Is the US saying they are going to release photos? Could I have an URL to that (sorry if it was on this thread and I missed it)?

I understand the desire of the government to reassure Iraqis who still fear Saddam's regime, but honestly I think publishing the photos will be too grisly and abhorrent AND hypocritical.

I wish that the Iraqi public would be convinced by the fact that their own council has been persuaded/shown the evidence -- including the DNA test results and dental matches and whatever else they are using -- but I don't think it will. In fact, I think rumors will persist that it was NOT Saddam's sons who perished regardless of whether or not the photos are published. And publishing them will give the U.S. a[nother?] black eye in world opinion.
