If a person could have an illness that is "catchy", I don't want them around me! I remember telling a new sister that had a cold and was hacking and coughing that she should go home and not get anyone else sick. Then she thanked me profusely for letting her leave.

Yeh, sure, come to the meetings, ya got SARS so what just get your butt here. It may kill us all off but who cares you've made the meetings.

The funny thing is that they'll take all sorts of precautions for baptism if a person has AIDS. They'll quarentine(just about). But if you have SARS or are afreaid you might get it, just rely on Jehovah.

Now THAT was funny. I about fell out of my chair laughing at that.
However, back to the original topic of the thread. I would not be surprised in the least if the WT hierarchy instructed members to "rely on Jehovah" and "not forsake the gathering of ourselves together" and "continue to make the meetings despite any obstacles placed in our way by this wicked system of things."
Sounds exactly like something they would say. Besides, they need people to fill the seats so they can peddle more magazines and get more donations.
Of course, I am inclined to agree with expatbrit. NO WAY they put this in writing. That would be incriminating. In true slippery form like the snakes they are, surely this
forced coercionsuggestion was given orally. -

It's laughable the lengths to which they will go to perpetuate the myth that these meetings are vital and indispensible to maintaining one's faith instead of the hackneyed, insipid, boring and ``same-old/same-old" trials bereft of any spirituality they are in reality.

Perhaps some of the Witnesses were attending the meeting knowing that they could die. But if they didn't die or get afflicted this could be proof that Jehovah was indeed protecting his people and divine protection was upon them. I can see this mentality working......And if they did die, it was probably because they didn't exercise enough faith.
