Seriously though - you are an EXCELLENT helper, your posts GAVE ME the biggest comfort when I was a lurker. You were a real deep studier like I was. People in my congregation said 'if you have a question ask******'

I don't know how bitter you are - but my way of coping is by being outrageous, disgusting, funny, cynical as all Hell. If the guys round here can cope, then I'll have some real friends AND A CERTAIN SPECIAL GRANNY!!

No bitterness, ninecharger, in spite of my reviews. But I have no rose-colored glasses on. I'm glad I could help; it is therapeutic for me too. Forewarned is forearmed. I am learning how to take my propensity to research in another direction. It is frightening to have 3 bible translations and 3 bible commentaries and try to come to a personal conclusion without the WTS publications.

Whether it is the Bible or immunizations or how we raise our family, we have to do the end research and take responsibility for our decisions. After years of running to the elders or some other WTS authority, it can feel like jumping out of a plane without a chute.

Blondie, actually it is illegal to keep a child out of school for lack of immunisations. All a parent has to do is sign the waiver. In the event an epidemic broke out, the child would then be excluded from attending school until it was under control.

A remark that I received in my email:

by asking "Are there still JW's who feel that immunizations are 'pus-filled'?", you infer that Jehovah's Witnesses in the past have felt that vaccines were intentionally contaminated or germ-laced.

Would any of you ever lovin' apostates care to comment on this, complete with a reference to the article that refers to immunizations as "pus-filled?"

I shall refrain from identifying said writer to save this person from embarrassment!

Ah, screw it. I'll do it.

"Thinking people would rather have smallpox than vaccination, because the latter sows seeds of syphilis, cancers, eczema, erysipelas, scrofula, consumption, even leprosy and many other loathsome affections. Hence the practice of vaccinations is a crime, an outrage, and a delusion"
    (Golden Age, Jan. 5,1929, p. 502)

Yes, a vaccination was "a crime" and was sometimes likened to a rape (like JWs today say about blood transfusions). Moreover, like almost everything else it has been used as a "sign of the last days:"

"Vaccination never prevented anything and never will, and is the most barbarous practice. . . . We are in the last days; and the devil is slowly losing his hold, making a strenuous effort meanwhile to do all the damage he can, and to his credit can such evils be placed. . . . Use your rights as American citizens to forever abolish the devilish practice of vaccinations." (Golden Age, Oct. 12, 1921, p. 17)

"The public is not generally aware of how large an industry is the manufacture of serums, anti-toxins and vaccines, or that big business controls the whole industry. . . . the boards of health endeavor to start an epidemic of smallpox, diphtheria, or typhoid that they may reap a golden harvest by inoculating an unthinking community for the very purpose of disposing of this manufactured filth."
    (The Golden Age, Jan. 3, 1923, p. 214)

Of course, notice here where they make fun of other religions who have failed to see the "new light" as rapidly (LOL) as they have:

And if you're really ready for some deep reading, here's a post by Focus on the MEDICAL EXPERTISE of the WT. (Ah, where are you when you're needed?)

    Hey I can't find the 'pus-filled' reference.

I guess I need one of you lame-brains after all.

Thanks, bluesapphire, for that correction. Yes, a waiver is required for those not taking immunizations but they can still attend. I suppose it puts the responsibility on the parents if their child gets sick at school.

I was misled by the JWs in a previous congregation I attended who said that they could not send their children to school because they would not take immunizations. I guess that was a BIG lie on their part or total stupidity. Home schooling did not work for their children. Both were on the loose while they worked full-time. One son ended up in prison. All because they were influenced by an anointed sister who still believed the information quoted above by LDH.
