Annon wins comment of the week!

I'm puzzled why Fall Guy asserts that COs cost the organisation nothing. The Year Book says otherwise.

Good. Our CO is a douchebag anyway.

From my experience, this is a no-brainer:

CO don't do much for the congregations anyway, they just show up every 6 months and do not solve or give any insight to the BOEs. The only thing they do is report back the congo's activities to the branch, but they can achive the same thing using super-elders picked from each circuit that work regularly and visit an X amount of congo each year.

They already use super-elders for some pedo cases, PLUS they use some super-elders to even teach the Pioneer School along with CO, but that show they are willing to use elders to do things things that regularly CO used to do.

Biggest win-win for using super-elders instead of CO: No money drainers.

The value of the CO is that they provide an audit of the congregation from the perspective of the self-interests of the mothership. I don't think you can discount that, nor do I think that this function is easily replaced.

Imagine what would happen with a renegade congregations with no central control. This is a worst-case but very realistic scenario for the Watchtower.

They can find super-elders on any circuit, men, power hungry that will enforce the WT rules onto congos without being "paid".

They used to have a City servant not sure if they still do. They had no real power that I can recall.

Not that I want the WTBTS to succeed but just applying a tad bit of organizational sense a City Servant with a bit of authority would be the lowest cost for any organizational oversight.

Hell this is too good an idea to share with the Dark Tower. Forgetaboutit!

I know a guy that was named City Servant when this arrangement came to be. He very well can be a super-elder and take care of 10-15 congos a year. All on his own dime.

The position was mostly for PR and Press contacts purposes.

So many congregations have dissolved, making circuits smaller.

C.O.s come a knockin' more often as far as I see.

Two advantages if there are no more C.O.s:

    1. These smaller circuits would be easier for super special elders to manage, hence easier to sell the new program.

    2. They would not have to start merging circuits (I was wondering when that would happen).

If this happens: Bye bye scripture about prophet not being honored in his home town!

    Super Elders are not Supermen!

Handing circuit oversight to elders within a circuit as opposed to paid circuit overseers has it's own problems. Watchtower is in a real pickle to say the least. Too many things can go wrong going back to the 'City Servant' program. A circuit overseer is online day in and day out. Due to access and constant use of the internet...many a primo circuit elder is a target of becoming a pimo (physically in mentally out) elder due to overexposure.

Hell, many elders in surrounding circuits will opening admit that simply handling responsibilities in their own congregations is a thankless and unappreciated job. A super elder having to handle circuit problems pretty much 24/7 while at the same time dealing with family, wife, children, health and aging problems will wear a 50 to 60 year-old guy down quick.

There just ain't enough dumb super elders to take the bait!
