Those D.O.'s that were obsessed with microphone wires were probably told by the Society to make sure nobody "stumbles" and the result is they could get sued. I used to love it when a C.O. would dictate every possible thing to control an assembly part only for the District Overseer to change it all in front of everybody. I'm sure they enjoyed busting them on their subordinates.

the traveling overseers and "big-shot" elders pretty much have their own culture and like to associate within their own group. Oh, they will condescend for the rest of the rank and file or "petty" elders, but they will only OPEN UP around their kind.
This may be a 'natural' thing to do though. People generally gravitate toward those who share common interests or experiences, and I guess the "heavies" (as they are called) are no different.
I recall that often Mrs Ozzie would complain to me about the time I spent in little huddles with other bethel os/admin.

Ozzie,
I agree absolutely. It's human nature. But, that's the point! This is supposed to be "God's organization" -- a spritual paradise where everyone is equal and personal foibles are done away with. Certainly, the WT or any other publication would never fess up and say how things REALLY are.

Amazing
Hey Logan / Brad: I never made it into the ranks of big-shot Elders ... though I rubbed shoulder with a few. But I hope that I was not one of those petty anal-retentive types either. I think the big-shot Elders, COs, and DOs view the things that they say and do as being funny, and do not understand (or even care) that the majority of the JW population take the religion much more seriously.
Before I was an Elder, I was reaching out trying to do everything right ... then one Elder told me that I was taking all this too seriosuly, taking myself too seriously, that Jehover was not that worried about every little thing ... mmmm ... I don't know, the up and coming Armageddon made Jehover look pretty serious where I came from ...
Now that I am looking back on it 11 years after leaving ... yep, it does look funnier and sillier all the time ... maybe that good Elder was really trying to send a signal to get out of her while I still had my youth ... too bad I took another 20+ years to do just that. Jim W.

Amazing,
Boy, where I was "groomed" I was told EVERYTHING was important. My "mentor" was John P. King (if anyone knows him) -- former Bethelite, now sub-CO. Total you-know-what. In my congregation we were instructed we had to always have our suit-jackets buttoned when we held microphones. To show just how anal-retentive this hall was, when a brother forgot to do this you would often see the aforementioned elder get up from his seat and whisper in the brother's ear. Suddenly their jackets were buttoned. Everything was "to the letter/by the book."
Hence, this is why I'm so anal. Years of indoctrination. Damn. I'm screwed.
