May be the melody was never copy righted, like folk lore, wt put lyrics to it, and now it is back in the public domain.

wt at one time discouraged to sing harmony at the hall, which I could never resist, just humming or yaddling. though.

Why did the WT publish a song that never mentions God or Jeus or the bible but is consistant with Greek gnosticism or Buddism=

Waton, if it's in their song book then I imagine they include a copyright in that book. If it doesn't belong to them they can't claim copyright.

I thought this comment on Jw Reddit was interesting

"Now we see why Watchtower is building a new media center: over coming years they know that perpetual license royalties can be one of their income streams. There is a growing market for Christian music - why not cash in if you're a copyright holder like Watchtower who had the melody and lyrics donated to you by volunteer labour? Literally 100% profit - the music industry would be envious!"

The Watchtower is happy to sell off their dedicated Kingdom Halls to anyone, even other religions, why not their video's and music?

This religion is becoming unrecognisable and no wonder they have to keep reminding their followers to be obedient to them even if it doesn't make sense from a human standpoint.

A big benefit to them is being able to put a dollar figure to their intellectual property in copyright court cases.

I guess this isn't so unusual after all when you consider that they made a profit selling their mags and books for decades, both to JWs and to the public.

I thought the original idea with having their own book of Hymns, and they wouldn't like their Songs to be called hymns, but the idea was to distance themselves from other religions, and keep their worship " pure".

It now really seems as though they are preparing to go more Main Stream and present a more acceptable face to the world. The old, aggressive JW stance of standing out as different on nearly everything, seems to be gradually being eroded.

A very different religion from the one I grew up in, and different from the one I left. One thing does not change though, it is still a Mind Controlling Cult.

it is still a Mind Controlling Cult.

PH and a controlled mind is not still, it thinks in stilted language, and most importantly hums the catchy tunes, lip-syncs the catchy phrase

" marking you good for emphasis through repetition. "

It would seem that Aled’s Album is a collection of religious songs from various sources. I am told the rights to the song are attributed to Warner Bros. Music. ( unverified but John Cedars said so )

This raises real issues of copyright. They are so aggressive in going after those who use their copyrighted material , I am sure they would sue if it was done without permission.

I assume the singer would be keeping his royalties which raises another issue .

They were so proud of the fact that their songbook was free of outside influences...

still, it is a rotten song anyway......

The YouTube video of the song is attracting JWs who are being disobedient and are leaving comments or responding to ex Jw comments.

BB if that is so, the copyright of wt must be very narrow, a specific feature of the songbook.

Why did the WT publish a song that never mentions God or Jeus

htbwc: good question I could hear the BDM choir sing it in a waltzing display ca'. 1940, when I was 10.

obedience was everything in those days in that place too. like for wt followers now, no matter what.
