  You will die. I will die. Those who have gone before us, the great and the small, the powerful and the weak, have shared the common fate of dying. As sentient animals, we are sensitive to the reality that we will die.

  Religions of all persuasions are obsessed with death, including Apostle Paul. His reasoning helped him cope with death. He associated Salvation with the death of Yeshua the Anointed One. He saw Death as a ruling power, as an enemy to be defeated (1 Corinthians 15:26). The death of one will institute the defeat of Death.

  Those who cannot accept the reality of their own inevitable death cling onto religion, whether an Egyptian Pharaoh, a Hindu, Buddhist, a Mormon, Islamist, Jew, Christian, or any other.

  Religions’ promises of living on after death and the promise of life eternal attract and control those who are incapable of coping with the thought of their inevitable fate.

  Although religions fail the test of reality, they provide comfort to the vulnerable. An illusion, nevertheless.

  I can accept with what you say Doug and like what BS says ,i can`t argue with that. Having said that ,I look back on my life and when its all said and done ,I haven`t made any great contribution to society as a whole ,Ok ,i`ve worked all of my life ,brought up a family paid my taxes and have lived a reasonably comfortable life ,but I have not made any lasting contribution to society that generations in the future can benefit from .

  So I thought is there anything I can do to make my life more meaningful in some way ? So I decided to become an Organ Donour .

  Maybe that contribution of whats left of my body after my demise can either play some small part in helping future generations in some small way. They can use whatever is useful to them even just tissues or whatever.

  { In my fantasies I think maybe they can transplant my penis and it can get more action than I ever gave it ?LOL]

  In the past people never woke up to this reality that death is the end of us. Or does everyone see a death as a child and wonders, "Is that it?" Then we find a religion?

  Religion explained away this hard fact, softening the blow and by doing so it gained massive support. How religions have prospered from this human conceit that we live after we die?

  Life is good...at least from my perspective. Two nights ago my 6 year old granddaughter was crying. When my daughter asked her what was wrong she innocently replied, "I don't want grandpa to die; he is the only one who plays "hide and seek" with me."

  When my 4 children were young, I was driving home from school one day and I got a sharp pain in my heart. I looked up and said, "Is this it God?" Well if it's alright with you, it's alright with me. Suddenly the pain went away as quickly as it appeared.

  When I got home I wanted my wife to know how spiritual I was so I shared this little incident with her. When the words, "it's all right with me" left my lips, she scowled, " Yeah...and what about us?". She obviously was not as impressed with me as I was.

  Van we all get sharp pains in and around the heart........... glad yours was not the final pain.

  And P.S......... your wife was right! Hope you bought a sufficient amount of life insurance for the wife and family.

  The entire appeal of the WT and JW construct was summed up by Freddy the ass hole Franz......when he spoke about the 1920's when the doctrine was put forth......... that 'many living today will never die'. Soon changed by the legal dept. to 'many living today MAY never die'. The Society protecting their ass.

  So many people born in the turn of the century experienced WW 1, the Spanish flu which killed a hundred million people world wide. All sorts of diseases that were killer diseases. Cancer of course had no cure, TB, Polio, heart disease etc.

  So a new religion actually before the WT created a religion........ presented this doctrine of living forever.

  If there was ever a bull shit doctrine that was a life changer....... not dying...... was dreamed up by the WT Society and to this day people are desperately holding on to that hope.

  A typical JW from the old school of thinking is ready to sacrifice billions of people so that they can live forever.

  Freddy Franz gave a talk about how popular that saying was and how it drove people to the 'truth'. A big smile on his stupid face almost breaking into gleeful expressions.

  He was oh so happy that someone, maybe Freddy..... thought that expression up.

  Of course the Ban on Blood made sure that the faithful would get a 'dirt nap' until the Resurrection.

  Jesus only had to wait for three days....what about the rest of us?

  My Mom clung to this belief until she passed at 91. Never gave up hope. Spent half her life going door to door.

  I will have to disagree with you on this statement, in part. Yes, the human animal has higher consciousness and is aware that death is coming. This is highly disturbing to most humans. Especially if raised in a culture that teaches the game of Black & White as in the form of "White Must Win."

  In the game White Must Win people are taught you have to live. Live a long time. Cling to life at all costs.

  In Hinduism and especially Buddhism (which is not a religion) White Must Win is not taught. Buddhism literally teaches the opposite. Buddhism teaches not to cling to anything and accept all life eventually ends, but is replaced with new life.

  It is the suffering from clinging to life that sprang forth the concepts of religion and an afterlife. Most religion teaches you have to live your short life in a certain way to insure a happy eternal afterlife. Buddhism teaches you to not dwell on the past or be anxious over the future. Rather, Buddhism teaches you how to get the most out of the wonderful experience of life by truly experiencing the only time we actually live in - the present.

  I used to sit by him at the GB table when I was in Bethel. He didn't seem like someone who enjoyed his life very much and spent it looking outwardly for answers to what was wrong with him, inwardly. He seemed like someone who wouldn't know what to do with himself if there wasn't something going on in the world to find fault with or if he wasn't obsessed and distracted from reality by some future magical dream.
