The increase in testing may be revealing more cases. The majority of new cases clearly do have the same high mortality rate and/or we have improved our treatment of those who suffer complications.
The Flu doesn't put 10% of people who get in the hospital and kill 1-2% of people who get it.

Still higher than the Flu, but the mortality rate is much lower than it was 9 months ago.
You realize 240,000 divided by 10 million is 2.4 percent.
