For anyone to host these letters and get off 'scott-free,' you would need to find an ISP located in a country that is not a member of the Berne Convention. A current list of countries that are members of the Convention can be found here:

    Zoewrex,

I have sent submissions to both the Electronic Frontier Foundation and ChillingEffects. I may have to wait a while before I hear something from them. We shall see.

I'm sure Mr Dookey...I mean Duquett gets enough porn as it is......Probably from his uncle...*LOL*

Hey Scully, lemme know if I can help hosting or otherwise.

J, nice letter back to him. Kepp up the good fight and lemme know if I can play I mean help too. ehehe...

Can anyone tell me why they use different letterhead like they did w/Cruzanheart? Does each entity or dept have their own stationary?

    Sincerely,

Great job Jourles! I see you are doing your research! Keep them busy and remember to ask them to provide an itemized list of each letter that they claim is in violation. You wouldn't want to remove anything that is NOT in violation ya know.

Regarding the letterhead... I'm wondering if they are trying to compartmentalize the functions of the different corporations.

The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society my be used for general business and legal operations, and the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses my be used for things related to the congregations.

    I don’t know for sure… I’m just guessing.

WOW. I just received an email from a paralegal who works at EFF/ChillingEffects. He will be calling me in a little bit to talk about this issue. As a teaser for all of you, he wrote this:

Yours is a good candidate for chilling effects
<http://www.chillingeffects.org>. One of our IP attorneys say that you
have got a very good fair use defense. There is some chance we can find
you an attorney, in which case you should write your ISP back and give a
counter-notification under section 512 that you are not infringing. The
problem is, of course, that without a lawyer the Jehjova's Witnesses
have a lot of money and would have a good chance of prevailing in court
and that could lead to a very expensive judgment against you.

*Crossing fingers* I may go offline for the rest of this so as to not give the WTS moles any information that they can use. If anyone wants, you can IM me about what is happening.

This may turn out OK afterall. It's funny how even he knows that the "Witnesses have a lot of money..." LOL!

There are five corporations within the US. (Actually, more, but these are the main ones.)

Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania, which owns the copyrights to the publications.
Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, which owns the Brooklyn properties.
Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, which handles all congregational matters.
Kingdom Services Inc, which handles construction projects
The Religious Order of Special Full-Time Servants, which cares for the Bethelites, construction servants, traveling overseers, and special pioneers

The thing is, before the CCJW was formed, the Service Department was under the WTBTS of NY, therefore they are the originators of most of the letters that Jourles posted. So the notification of infringement has to come from the originators of the infringed material.

    Clear as mud?

    VM44:

I received your private message inquiring about the deleted post. Unfortunately I have had error messages lately when trying to send private messages, so I am afraid I have to respond to you here.

The post had to be deleted to protect the privacy of the individuals whose identities were disclosed therein. As amusing as it is to imagine sending nasty e-mails or spam or anything else to WTS officials, I would hate to see someone from this site provoking these individuals to the point of taking action against Simon or doing anything else that could result in this forum's existence being threatened.

The forum assistants are not at liberty to disclose the identity of the poster who submitted the information.

    Love, Scully

    Thank you Scully.

Indivisual privacy is important to maintain in a discussion group like this.

Of course, if you one had a list of WT officials, one could send each of them a free gift,

say, a complementary copy of Raymond Franz's book "Crisis of Conscience"

    Scully,

Oh, one thing, when I asked who posted the message that was delete, I was not asking about their identity, only their "alias" used in the forum. Wanted to see what other things they had written here.

But no matter....going on to read other threads now
