They are more interested in getting a better job, gaining a general education and appreciation of ideas, and getting training for a specific career. Laudable goals all!

The benefit of education and distribution of knowledge is an obvious benefit for all of humanity , the benefit of pioneering for the Watchtower Corporation and donating money to the WTS. is a few corrupt men like Losch get to live off that cultivated money .

A lot of the leading idiots who ran the WTS didn't have a education or built up savings to retire on so men like Losch have to keep the organization running for their own sake and sustenance. $$$

It isn't too hard to learn the bullshit to propagate the bullshit and the GB men have years of training under their belt..

...with an ironic twist.... "Although George's depression did not disappear and he is still on medication, the bullet's action has enabled him to resume a normal life and go on to college." (Washington Post). New York Times article even relates that he is "now a straight-A college student". How ironic is that? Losch chooses to "skim read" the story - failing to fact check the slightest details - and shoots himself in the foot. Losch has actually quoted about this failed suicide to CONDEMN education...failing to be aware that the REAL person actually ends up in HIGHER EDUCATION. You just couldn't make this stuff up! :-)

Other posters have accurately spotted Loesch's outdated and manipulative quoting of external source material (Fay Dehr, many thanks for your amazing find regarding the OCD man) so I will focus on the above numbers that were cited during Loesch's presentation:

Note the following from previous years:

In 2014, there was a peak of more than 116,312 publishers in Canada, 375 more than the current peak.

In 2011, there was a high of 192,006 at the memorial service, 8,958 more than this year.

In 2016, 1,409 and in 2018, 1,408 - at least one congregation less than two years ago.

Amazing numbers, yes! I bet the latest numbers were not placed in the context of previous year's better numbers. Only when there is "marvellous increase" does the organization make comparisons with earlier years.

Very wise of them, I'd say.

I was still an elder in 2006 when I went to college. One of the reasons they deleted me.

My first class I took was Ethics. I took stances on every issue we discussed that was opposite of what JWs believed. And it woke me up. I left JW in 2007.

A few years later, when my non JW wife took her class, I had a chance to thank that instructor and tell her how her class changed my life.

No wonder JWs don't want anyone educated.

It appears that Dr. Austin published these findings in 1991. This relates to research conducted “between the late 1960s and the mid-1980s American college students became much more focused on material goals and less concerned with altruism and social problems.”
