Political leaders aren't demanding that their followers cut off association with members of the opposite party/candidate under penalty of shunning; the people doing the shunning are doing it of their own accord.

    Oh really?

“They’re not going to be able to go to a restaurant, they’re not going to be able to stop at a gas station, they’re not going to be able to shop at a department store,” “The people are going to turn on them, they’re going to protest, they’re going to absolutely harass them.”
Waters seemed adamant the protests would continue until cabinet members tell Trump, “No, I can’t hang with you."-Maxine Waters

Sounds like exactly whats going on to me

The following is from the Washington Post:

The latest sign of political divide: Shaming and shunning public officials

Anger and division in American politics are creating a rising phenomenon: the public shaming and shunning of political figures while they are going about their private lives.

Pam Bondi, the Florida attorney general who often appears on Fox News and is closely aligned with President Trump, was shouted down at a movie screening in Tampa on Friday. “You are a horrible person!” one protester screamed at Bondi. The local newspaper reported that Bondi was escorted out of the theater by police.

Hecklers shouted “Shame!” at Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, a public face of Trump’s immigration policies, hastening her departure from a Mexican restaurant near the White House last week. Protesters even posted video of that encounter on Facebook.

Trump adviser and immigration hard-liner Stephen Miller also was confronted at a restaurant last week and called a “fascist.”

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) this weekend encouraged harassment of Trump officials in public spaces.

A sitting Democratic congresswoman has called for violence against those on the right, let that sink in

I think what Maxine Waters said -- encouraging harassment -- is complete bullshit.

But that has nothing to do with what I said:

"Political leaders aren't demanding that their followers cut off association with members of the opposite party/candidate under penalty of shunning; the people doing the shunning are doing it of their own accord."

She did not demand that anyone shun members of an opposing viewpoint under penalty of shunning themselves.

Given the recent incidents of democratic supporters actually shooting at republicans, I think Maxine Waters comments are dangerous and reckless in the extreme. This will escalate and she should be held accountable when it does. There is simply too much of this excusing, justifying and encouraging confrontation and often real violence happening.

    SIMON:

I saw that news clip about her and am shocked that anybody would advocate confrontation. Very bad👎🏻

There are too many unstable people in society that would take her up on this. This all makes the Democrats look very bad...Bottom line: They didn’t get their candidate in office and now they want to cause social unrest and violence. I guess it’s rule or ruin. So sad.

I sit next to a conservative gentleman at work. This guy consistently votes Republican, which means he voted for both John McCain and Donald Trump in 2016.

You can criticize McCain and he's fine with it. Even when he doesn't agree, he usually just shrugs.

Say something that could even remotely be construed as criticism of Trump and he's furious. Even when it's something truly, honestly funny, like when he tweeted from his iPhone that we should boycott Apple products during the election.

I don't think I've ever seen on one hand the level of loyalty and on the other, the level of hatred directed towards a President before.
