JW's were much more culturally relevant 20-30 years ago...

Once I left JW-ville, I asked a couple of friends regarding what they knew of JWs.... It is exactly as everyone stated here...they didn't know much. One nurse, who was born in China, knew nothing of them growing up, and only because she works in a hospital knows of their stance on blood.

Kingdom? God's name? Vindication? Satan vs. God?

Nope.... The "good, great and holy news of the kingdom" is not well known.

JWs say "God gives everyone a chance to decide who they will serve, he is so fair to let Satan tell his side of the story, and let "the people" have a choice.

How can anyone choose or decide over an issue when they have no knowledge it even exists?????

As long as God depends on JWs to get His message of salvation for all mankind publicized before bringing Armageddon, you can be sure that Armageddon will never come.

Millions of people in India have never heard of them

Peak numbers of JWs in that country are less than 45,000 - but they have been "working" in that huge country for well over 120 years; I think the first Bible Students went there before the end of the 1800s.

Their main area of growth has not been among the Hindus or Muslims (both groups forbid joining other religious groups - that much ironically they have in common with JW organization), but they draw from disaffected Christians especially in the Kerala region (South India) where there are large numbers of Catholics.

Another example of limited growth and the growth that has occurred is among those who already subscribe to Christianity.

I think staying under the radar has served them well in many ways.

I knew so little I married a man from a JW family, and still for 5 years didn't know anything more than the cursory "outside" presence.

It was not until the "bomb" of my husband wanting to reactivate and get baptized, and try to convert me, that I did serious research and was floored by what I learned. It scared me, and angered me.

Now, we had been married for 5 years and had a child together. There was no turning back and saying "sorry I'm not going to deal with this crap". I was in the thick of it for good, for better or worse.

I felt deceived. His words to me when we married was he had no interest in going back to the JW's, and the info I was given to read about them was sanitized. Though it seemed like a childish religion ( the literature felt insulting to my intelligence) and I didn't know the " language" of the JW. All I really knew is the door knocking, and he said he didn't want any part of that, and hadn't been for 15 years, at that time.

I seriously hope with all I can muster, that Leah brings the JW to her series, and does a few episodes on the dangers.

A few in Christendom recognize them but still don't have a good opinion about them.
