I remember a circuit overseer at a convention declaiming against science-fiction or fantasy oriented movies that would depict aliens and such, because to enjoy these forms of entertainment would encourage a disrespect for God's creative integrity. I don't know why I really was so incredulous to hear this since it was just one more step from villifying rationale and logic, i.e. independent thinking, as demonic inspiration, to the notion that the God-given human capacity for creativity and imagination is also evil.
I have heard something similar... that the untruths the society used to spout (which were of course "truths" at the time) served a purpose. The net result was better than if the actual truth was taught.
I couldn't help but correct our bookstudy conducter after the meeting one time. He was talking about nuclear reactions... "You do it all the time! When you drove to the hall this morning, your car was utilizing nuclear power. It was converting matter (gasoline) into energy!"
Ohhhhh, we watch how we walk and we watch how we talk,
hum, hum, hum... something, something, something... in our ministry...
ohhhhhhhh my god, elsewhere, i'll have you know i burst out laughing out loud when i read this and couldnt stop for like ten minutes! my neighbors must think i have some sort of hyena over here!!!
the stupidest thing that anyone told me that i can recall at the moment (i'm sure there are far too many that i've forgotten) : one time i said 'birthday suit' instead of 'naked' because i didnt want to say 'naked', and a sister told me, 'Don't say birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'
(haha, but i told her, "You just said it!!!' i was like six....that sister got very huffy with my mom later on about the whole thing)
How about stupid and mean? An elder once told me after I had "disassociated" myself, I was born into, baptized at 15, and after years of prayer to Jehovah guide me in what I was supposed to do (especially about the hypocrisy I saw and what I felt inside) I finally left and was told by this "elder" (my dad)
that my body would make good fertilizer for the earth.
friend of mine met a girl at a convention, after she found out he was not pioneering, she told him, she couldn't talk to him anymore.
Yeah, I had the same experience. But she only asked if I was pioneering AFTER we made out pretty hot & heavy for an hour or so .
The dumbest thing was this hick elder that said we could'nt be creamated, because of the resurrection & all. He got all bent when I said"Oh, so abel's body is still around?"

I heard a story about an anti JW woman who had trained her attack dog to kill when she said "Jehovah." She ordered her dog to attack a pioneer who had come to her house. When she said the attack command, "Jehovah," the dog turned on its owner and bit her in the throat, causing her much sorrow.
Moral of Story: Dogs don't like it when you use god's name in vain.
I heard a few version of this story, one where the dog's name was Jehovah. Pretty cool name for a dog. Has anyone else heard this? I checked the JW Urban legends list and couldn't find it. =suz
