Qualifications of elders question

Hi guys! I thought you guys would be able to clarify something for me. According to JW’s what qualifies you to become an elder and who does the appointing? My husband had mentioned to me once that his goal was to become an elder one day and I was surprised because in no way would he qualify if you were to follow what the Bible has to say an elder’s qualifications are.

I also started to pay attention more to who the “elders” were and now I’m even more confused. So I’m wondering what the JW’s rules are to become an elder?

    Thank you!

In theory you "meet the qualifications" of at 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.

In fact to be an elder you have to have a penis, be late 20's or older and have either or preferably both a brown nose or tongue from licking the derriere of the prominent elders in your congregation and of course the CO when he visits.

Putting 10 hours a month on your report with a "balanced ministry" (a handlful of RV's and "placements") which if you have kids would include a "family study" helps enormously.

You need to be "visible" as in out cart-minding or door knocking weekly or at least 3 times a month.

Attending nearly all meetings regularly and "participating" by answering up.

Also helps if you make generous contributions (by check so it's evident) too.

Ok, so we've read the smart ass version of qualifications, now, what are the real qualifications.

A willingness to serve others. (Amway or any other pyramid scheme will do.)

Taking the lead in the ministry. (Meeting for service, making groups and then excusing yourself because you have a "pressing matter".)

Cooperates well with others. (Schmoozes well)

Has a boat, optional. (Has a boat.)

    Has a four door car.

Haha thought it was only the elder in my group that always came with that excuse.

The above quote is the most important. Lots of emphasis on a "balanced ministry" I knew of one bro who regularly had 10-15 hrs plus in ministry but no RV's. CO shot appointment down. 6 mos and 3 rv's later and he was appointed. Stupidest thing I've ever seen. Based on that he is qualified now to rule the lives of the sheep? Because he visited 3 people at least once a month that likely were not even interested and probably used the WT mags to cover the bottom of their parakeet's cage.

"Having children in subjection" is one definitely a qualification mentioned in the bible. So "technically", and the wt does like to nit pick the scriptures to suit their needs, a man does not qualify if he has no children. i had to explain this to a fellow elder (40 years old, married and no children) one time when he was getting a little uppity about elder qualifications.

"Husband of one wife". So "technically" a man that has been married more than once does not qualify.

    just saying!

What if he is not a husband at all? 😉
