Outsourcing all the printing might be a reasonable business decision, but what happens during the Great Tribulation™? Won't Satan's world™ cut off this source of "life-giving spiritual food©"? Oh my, whatever shall we do?

I feel bad for the Bethelites, especially the older ones, who have devoted their lives to this mind-control cult and are now being involuntarily "released to the field." James 2:16 comes to mind. It seems particularly appropriate because their service at Bethel is the very reason most don't have any transferrable skills or work experience. The Society essentially made them destitute and unemployable, and puts them on the street with little notice and no concern for their welfare. No compensation or consideration for decades of faithful service. How heartless!

    New Living Translation
and you say, "Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well"--but then you don't give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?

The only positive thing I can see about all this is that maybe fewer young people will be hoodwinked and deluded into sacrificing their education, careers, and future to serve this legalistic money-grubbing sorry excuse for a religion.

I hope the supercilious middle management at London Bethel are sweating like a cold case rapist whose been told his DNA has been matched to the crime.

To be fair most newspapers and other companies that use printing presses are finding it far too expensive to actually use printing presses. Many printing press companies in the US have closed down and have been closing down for the past 10 years or so. There is a push to get newspapers online because the cost of actual printing is just too high and more and more people are looking for their information online.

This was bound to have an affect on the Watchtower publications at some point and with all the other costs the JWs are incurring it was never a question of 'if' the JWs would go paperless, but a question of 'when'.

the GOOD NEWS here is that there will no longer be slave labor used to produce the WT materials. These are being produced in a more straightforward way that actually will enhance the community and allow people to have PAYING jobs, marry who they choose, pay taxes, raise children and have a puppy if they want.

To be fair...the WTS has always been just a business- never really a religion - they only say they are "not part of this world". What a myth.

A reliable source who was working at London Bethel when Mark Sanderson made his visit and broadcast (was it 2015?) recounted this anecdote .

"Mark was asked whether printing had a future in the Society and he said that The Society was certainly not giving up on print. There is a great need for field ministry supplies and that will continue as far as we can see...."

    Famous last words?

Centralising printing in a geographic region and/or outsourcing is still not giving up on print. They cannot fill the carts with nothing, they cannot expect to simply show everyone at the door a video, not everyone can or wants to use a tablet at the meeting for everything.

It is inevitable that the volume of print material required has decreased significantly but it's still there. If what they are doing is true then it makes good sense and it's win win all around.

There is no way the R&F will see it as any kind of indication that Jehoover is no longer blessing things but I would love to have been a fly on the wall when the GB heavies told the British branch committee they were losing all of this and being relegated to a second tier sorting office. That really would have wiped the smile off their smug, self obsessed faces...
