I don't usually watch these type either, but I saw this a couple weeks ago. Good flick, lots of suspense. Interesting sub themes as well.

Tink,
I watched his followup to Ringu a month of so ago. It's called Dark Water and it's every bit as scary as Ringu.
The Eye was good too.
Suicide Club however was screwed up.
Oh and Audition isn't for the faint of heart.
I love Japanese horror films now.

i watched the film a few weeks ago, and i thought it was a tad boring and not very fightening at all. sorry, but i'm hard to please.
Scared the beejeebers out of me too......I thought about it for a week or so.....The last 5 minutes were wild.
Okay now you guys did it! My curiousity is up and now I've got to check this film out. Can I rent it at Blockbuster or some place like that?
BigTex,
Should be able to. The Japanese (and imo superior) original is called Ring or Ringu and the the US (still good) remake is called The Ring.

Thanks! I'll check them out ... and then I'll look for someone rock me to sleep.
BTW: Simon was scared too so dont let him tell you otherwise
the reason I dont usually watch these sort of films, even though I enjoy them is because quite often I wake up yelling which then scares the crap out of Simon
Yes, just to clarify: the reason I am scared is that last time she watched a film like this she woke me up in the middle of the night, almost pitch black, pointing into the corner screaming "uh, uh ... it's there ... it's there !!" and then fell fast asleep leaving me satup in bed with my heart pounding.
I guess it's her revenge for the night I thought I'd killed her:
We'd watched "night of the living dead" (old B&W zombie film) and she was petrified. While she went to the loo I thought it would be funny to stand outside the door in the dark with my hands outstretched and a zombie face on (I do it really well)
She opened the door looking back in to the bathroom and heading out (not looking where you are walking in best 'scary film tradition') and turned her head round just as she came face to face with me. I've never heard anyone scream like that before in real-life, or seen anyone collapse on the floor in quite the same way. It's also possibly the longest stream of swear words I've heard in one go.
It seemed such a good idea at the time
As Ignored_One suggested above, "The Ring" and the original "Ringu" are part of a series based on stories by Japanese author Koji Suzuki.
I didn't know that the second japanese movie was out yet, though. Personally, of the two I preferred the American version, because it employed idioms and cultural artifact with which I am familiar. That's the Seattle monorail in some of those scenes, by the way, and a Washington State Puget Sound ferry. So at least a part of it was filmed here in the Puget Sound area.
Has anyone seen "Jeepers Creepers"? Another scary movie. The sequel is hitting theaters pretty soon...
that was just MEAN Simon!
I don't "do" scary...no no no!
