Please do not call him president. He is not now, nor will he ever be, worthy of that title.

More on topic, it seems that (a) Syrians are psychic or (b) someone tipped them off. I wonder how that could have happened..

    bohm:

Russia is flying bombing runs there all the time. The US informed, as agreed, Moscow's air traffic control: " we are coming "

That is why Xi kept smiling through it all, El Presidente showing his macho streak. Striking an emptying nest.

@bohm - I said earlier in the thread that I admire Trump's honesty in striking Assad, and that what Assad did was a terrible thing.

I've consistently maintained that Assad, like Putin, is a very bad person (but isn't as bad as Islamists).

While I admire Trump for actually doing the right thing in this instance and standing up to Assad & Putin, I'm not so sure it will be good in the long term. I'll wait and see.

In the meantime, well done to Trump for showing some guts and straightforwardly standing up to Assad & Putin by striking a Syrian base. I'm sure you agree.

It makes a refreshing change from Obama's weak, cowardly actions in Syria.

I look forward to the time when praise for 'taking action' in Syria turns into complaints later on that we just didn't act forcefully enough, as happened in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya (I don't really look forward to this, it's just so predictable...)

So you think it was a bad idea for trump to destroy the Syrian air base but Obama was a coward for agreeing with you?

    Are you on drugs?

I said Trump did the right thing to strike the Syrian base. I also said that I'm not sure it will be good in the long term - war with Russia?, etc.

And yes, Obama making red lines then failing to act when they're crossed suggests indecisiveness, possibly cowardice.

It would be nice to hear people who believe Russia got Trump elected say something positive about Trump, now that he's shown he won't be Putin's poodle.

Well, i guess that makes Obama a more strategic thinker than you or trump then doesn't it.

FWIW - Obama chose to have a narrow strategic focus in Syria. Nothing to do with cowardice and everything to do with realising how quickly things could escalate there. Something we may be about to find out. Although thankfully I think Putin may have enough sense not to let it.

All this has got a smell of third world war. Hopefully only a smell.

I find it interesting that Russia had the wherewithal (S-400 system) to shoot down some of the Tomahawks and the advance warning, but let the raid continue.

They might not have had enough inventory of S-400s in Syria to take them all out, but they certainly could have blunted the attack. The Russians also have a jamming system in place. I wonder if that would have had any effect on the Tomahawk's guidance (see here).
