Yes, there has been crime as long as we can remember. Under 8 years of Obama, there was crime. Under 8 years of Bush the Younger, there was crime. Under 8 years of Clinton, there was crime ... go back as even further if you want.
But what has lit the fuse for this country to go crazy? Elections ? Trump ? Just a volcano waiting to erupt ?
I don't get it. Crime has overall been coming down over the past 20 years and now things are erupting all over.
Any thoughts ?
Crime is d own this year in most major cities. There is an election and the media both sides of it is getting everyone riled up.
When the election is over everything will be back to normal.

Economic turmoil instigated by a virus pandemic which the governments had to shut down their economies and impose social restrictions.
Some countries like here in Canada the government was not too much in debt so they were able to offer relief money to people who couldn't work, but that's not the case in all or many countries.
Add in the racial tension particularly in the US and you create a situation of an increase in crime.

Blm, antifa, rednecks, lgbtq all acting out. Add the fear mongering over the pandemic and ridiculous restrictions.
The news will not leave trump alone. I hear commentary all the time that is editorial. Things like; "even obama couldn't ". Trump was wrong to restrict travel with china but restricting travel in the USA is right?
Most of the oppressed minorities are NOT who you would want for neighbors. The minority neighborhoods dont want them either. Add in defunding,/ restricting police and police who will not police their own bad apples. (Biden will not defund police, the local machine will,)
Overall crime has been down for over a decade, but there has been a recent uptick in violent crime. Especially domestic crimes. COVID-19 lock downs have a lot to do with this.

I'm not sure where you are getting your facts from but the top 5 (major cities as you call them, NY, LA, Chicago, Houston, Phoenix) have had significant increases in crime this year. Where are you getting your "facts" from?
Haven't seen the data but has crime really increased or did it just seem that way once the media became bored with reporting on Covid and focused their attention on the good ol standby and easy mark....racism instead ?
I live a short drive from a major city that had a lot of media attention in the last few months. When you don't watch the news, none of it exists and your stop seeing things the way they've decided you should see them. Except for the masks, everyone seems to be going about their lives as normal.
