The Watchtower Society’s 607 BCE Foundation Exposed

The Governing Body and its Watchtower Society claims that in 1919 it was appointed by Jehovah God and Jesus Christ to represent all of their earthly Kingdom interests, to be their unique voice and sole representative towards all people on earth. The Watchtower’s authority lives or dies with that claim.

The Society’s critical date of 1919 is calculated from the dates of events in the 6th century BCE. Does the Society provide consistent, objective, and undeniable evidence for its appointment in 1919? Is that evidence strong enough to make a person devote their life and energy to the Watchtower and to its Governing Body?

I had a quick read. I will read it a bit more thoroughly, a bit later. Well done, and well presented.

Minor point; there appears to be an error in the summary chart on page 32.

Thanks shepherdless. I do appreciate any corrections, however to help me, you will need to be more specific.

On that diagram at page 32, I have now added a "start" arrow pointing to "Babylon falls".

Depending on your browser, if you have already looked at the file, you might need to perform a "refresh" on the browser.

    Hi Doug,

Essentially, my point is that the chronology chart on page 32 has 537 BC occurring before 539 BC (ie in between Oct 607 BC and Oct 539 BC). Either that is a mistake, or the chart can't be called a chronology.

    Cheers

Thank you Doug. for this post

Of course you know that this post will mean nothing to the average Jehovah`s Witness , whether he be an Elder or a Ministerial Servant , or just your average publisher .

These sort of facts just go right over the head of the average Jehovah`s Witness, so frustrating.

But thanks for providing this information anyway for people who do appreciate what you do .

    Take care

    Hey Doug!

    Very nice piece of work.

On a side note, towards the end there is some discussion on Cyrus and Darius. I was wondering if there has been any new research on the question of whether Cyrus was Darius? The NAC-Daniel commentary had three pages or so devoted to that subject and they rated the evidence as being slightly in favor of that possibility, but definitely not anything they could be dogmatic about. (I posted about that here a couple of years ago.)

(It could be that you were just saying on point with your subject.)

    Doug,

Thanks once again for another impressive piece of scholarship! Your work and jwstudies.com deserve wider recognition. If I recall correctly, you never were a JW; if so, the extent of your interest in this sort of specialized research is even more remarkable.

I have found the book "The Gentile Times Reconsidered"-"chronology of Christ's return" by Carl Olof Jonson to be utterly enlightening.

    The ISBN 0-914675-06-0.

The work is scholarly in its detail about the dates and dating used by the wts and is enlightening too about how the gb react and treat anyone who dares suggest; or make anything like a criticism of their dogma.

I can not recommend this work enough!
