Reminder about language and content

Thanks for that gentle reminder. -

I agree with you Simon, the casual use of bad language is lazy and offensive. I do think there is a place for some well placed profanity but it should be well thought out and indispensable.
Incidentally one of the most loved funny men in the UK started out as the most potty mouthed. Billy Connelly was absolutely unmentionable amongst good JW circles but hilarious. Now he has Parkinson's a heart as big as a bucket and seems to have lost his swear switch. I loved him right through his career.
But, we aren't all Billy C. The sweariness is not half so salty without the genius humour.

I am going to play devils advocate here (not disagreeing with Simon). I know the social justice warriors will scream I'm some sort of trump supporter for what I say even though I don't agree with his ideas and no I am not voting for him... I accept this is a go to for them.
I think we have fallen into a PC vacuum.
Criticizing someones religion = racism!
Telling someone to not be so sensitive = misogyny!
Calling someone out on BS = "rabid attack!"
What is going on? I would hate to be a stand up comedian in this day and age.
For some of the new folks and even old that are EXJW, you left a world that reinforced your beliefs systematically, and people were forced to be censored. The real world is not like that. Life is not a discussion board with a moderator looking out that everyone treats you nicely and reinforces your beliefs.
In another post I defended someone I often disagree with and don't like very much because someone suggested they didn't like the way he expressed himself because it offended them. This site belongs to Simon and he can do whatever he wants, he can kick anyone out of the party and set the rules, that's cool. But the hair trigger sensitivity of many on here is extreme! I don't know if its just the way the world is now (PC vacuum), or if its an EXJW thing expecting to re-find their Utopian group. Just something to think about.
Be careful you all don't censor yourselves out of reality. In the mean time I am just here like...

Just for the record, I know there are lines that can be crosses, but lately I feel they are blurred and hurt feelings are being mixed up with social injustice. -

Here is how I see it. Imagine if, during that time in which you were turned off by "apostates", you got into a horrible car wreck (knock on wood) and you still kept your "no-blood card" in your wallet. They respected the "no-blood card" and let you die, right there, on the operating table. Horrible, right?
Well, imagine you had not been turned off by "apostates". Instead, "apostates" showed a loving & kind demeanor toward your objections and questions (like Paul Grundy & others did to me). You started having stronger doubts and, like me, asked for your "no-blood card" from the Elder's files and destroyed the one carried in your wallet (I did this very early on, even though I was still active for about 2 years afterward).
Then, you get into that same accident and your life is saved by a transfusion. You fully wake up, as does your family. Boom! Life saved.
THAT is how important it is we set a good example for lurkers and active JWs. It is a matter of life and death!
Oh, but its just "satire", right? Wrong! We have a responsibility to current JWs and the little children who might end up not being raised in this damn cult, just by us swallowing our pride and being respectful.

In order to truly be free you need to break away from the shackles that once held you down. Namely the characteristics of a cult:
Persecution complex
Control
Love Bombing
Group Think
Opposition to independent thinking
etc...

freemindfade: You either simply don't understand or are trying to confuse the issue.
If a perfectly fine discussion is happening and then someone starts posting crude sexual comments and swearing then it is OUT OF PLACE.
No one is being censored - they can go do that elsewhere. Just not here. That isn't censorship and it isn't open for debate.

All due respect Simon, I was not disagreeing with you as I said.. I am trying to keep the line clear between discussion and rule breaking. I feel that some can't handle not being agreed with and are putting that in the same category as the things you mentioned. I feel not everyone is talking about "swearing" and "sexual content".
If you are exposed the the truth about the witnesses and you come this far, and someone is a jerk to you and that sends you back to the religion, you weren't really awake.
After all, they are told constantly that "apostates" are obsessed with arguing, lying, misleading, being rude, etc. If we can be nothing but the exact opposite of what the WT says we are on here, we are doing good.

You seem to be confusing control with behaviour. Just because the WTS labelled certain poor behaviour as such doesn't mean also having the same opinion means we're still "controlled" in some way.
We don't have to be the opposite of the WTS in every single detail. That is simply idiotic.

Thanks Simon, it's nice of you to bring that up. I am no prude, but have lately noticed a few threads that simply seem to be getting juvenile... Meaning, simply telling crude jokes, or making crude remarks, and swearing quite a bit.
If you don't absolutely need to swear, and are able to express yourself using terms that make your point, you seem more intelligent, and are more likely to be listened to, and heard.
When I see this type of crude-ery, I don't read any farther...
