if there was one thing that affected me most was, I would have to say the time I ran into a brother (while I was still in the borg) in the downtown area.

He said "just take one year off, no meetings, no service, no assemblies, no talks, nothing, just take a break, and you will see the Wathctower differently, and your mind will clear."

At the time I just shrugged it off as a bitter JW who left, now when I look back, it was probaly the biggest thing that someone ever said to me, and he was right, 100%.

was there a saying, an occurrence or a person that just got you thinking about how ridiculous the Watchtower is ???

My husband has been the greatest influence in my adult life. He has given me back my self-esteem and confidence, but most importantly he has loves me unconditionally.

"you can do it, I know you can".....................and I did!

    Cheers, Bliss

    I was 7

proverb 14:30 : "the life of the body is a heart of peace, but envy rots the bones"

this proverb really did free my mind once an for all ... I guess this is the real only good thing I can say "THANKs to the BIBLE" I'm happy that I've learned it at 7

My most influential statement came from the young man that helped me gain my freedom from my abusive elder/husband and the borg

I had been stuck trying to decide to leave or stay or commit suicide. I could not decide what to do because my mind was so muddled. He said

Choosing not to decide is making a choice.

Profound for me. I had to take a week to think about it and decided that if doing nothing was in effect a decision and I hated it. And then was free to make some other choice. I left

    It was a movie.

1989 was the year from hell. I was struggling with abuse issues, my mother was dying from cancer and I was facing what the Witnesses really were while my wife, friends and family were bombarding me daily with pressure to stay a Witness no matter what.

In the middle of all that I saw "Papillon". Never had seen it before, and the parallels in the story and my life at that time struck me. But the ending meant the most when Steve McQueen finally escaped off of Devil's Island. He was floating on a little homemade raft in the ocean when he shook his fist and said, "Hey you bastards! I'm still here!"

The reason I got baptized was partially because I would often visit a history buff friend and we would get into bible discussions...I always took the WT side and one day he said if you defend it and know so much about it why are you being an Ostrich(head in the sand). I got baptized 6 months later.....16 years later it comes full circle in the other direction.....Now I take the othe side and have reverted back to the ostrich stance.

    Damn........

When I was constantly fighting with my husband about whether "the truth" was the truth, he said "If it is the truth, it will stand up to scrutiny". That really struck me, and more and more of what he was saying started to get into my thick skull.
