Once is always the first time. Never saw it before, though I've already been waiting for the first Powerpoint talk at the Kingdom Hall.

So far I only read a member of the regional parliament delivered his inaugural speech from his pda. Looked rather smart as a couple of words were sufficient as notes.

But I find it rather outrageous fo a talk at the KH, particularly as the new School book encourages talking from an outline and instructions from the sociaty are even scaring COs, as (besides the usual Amos, Micah, Jonah, Keynote address and release talks) all assembly and convention speaker are no longer allowed to use manuscripts for their talks.

So I guess over here he never would have been assigned for a talk.

But unfortunately elder Caspian was no longer there to save himself and the congregation from this talk.

So, while I don't use a manuscript, I guess normally the laptop would hinder me to concentrate; but: when it ever happens that I have to give a talk while a European or World Championship game is scheduled, I'd use the laptop to keep informed. Anyway, used my mobile to get informed of the World Championship's final held at the same time as the public talk at the DC.

1st time i've heard of that, or a PDA being used for a talk.

I've seen a bro using a PDA for taking notes at a DC & in FS, but that's it.

    Winston.

I've got no problem with using technology like that... just make sure the technology is an improvement and not just a novelty.

    the young elder (age 27ish)

to me THAT is more of a novelty than the lap-top. How does one ask a 27 year old punk "elder", for spiritual advice? or life experience?

I mean..... he would need a note from his mummy, to disfellowship someone

27 year-old ELDER.... Just think about that for a second... an ELDER (implying old and wise) who is 27 years old.

I've never seen it at Kingdom Halls, but Bible Students have been using laptops for years in their studies, talks and conventions. It beats bringing all those Bible helps in a suitcase!

If you said it was amazing talk, by laptop, say, with slides and some web cam experiences presented and internet links to "watchtower related sites" (LOL) I would be amazed.

    But it sounded decidedly crap.

I have no problem with a laptop. College lecturers and business presenters often speak from laptops.

I think that using a laptop on a KH podium would be terribly awkward, however. And it does rather seem to destroy the air of formality (if that happens to be your thing).

Good job he didn't hit "my pictures" folder by accident.

Outrageous to think anyone needs to speak from an outline from a laptop. Talk about poor audience contact. He could have had a reason, perhaps.

I have used a laptop and digital projector in the past in parts to show certain illustrations, etc. Some time ago I went to a special program put on by the Society entitiled "Planned Giving" where the entire thing was produced in Powerpoint with all sorts of whiz bang stuff to keep the attention of the well heeled in attendance.

I use technology every day in my professional work, but to use a laptop to give a public talk ... never, didn't need it wouldn't need it now if I were ever again so inclined to get on the platform again. Don't hold your breath.
