No they're not generally known as a 'book printing company', they're known as a weird religion where people come knocking on your doors, trying to get you to take their magazines.

As with announcements of changes in the past, we are well advised to look beneath the covers, to find out the real reason for all these changes.
For example, the cessation of food service at conventions was heralded by the WTS as "simplification" with all its accompanying virtues. The real reason, as is well known now even by the R&F, was TAX. The governors of the borg have a loathing for paying it and will do anything to avoid it. (Hey, isn't that what "worldly" people do???!!).
So, what could the real reason for this "reorganisation" be? I wonder???!!!!
Thanks for the update, Randy. As always you're the provider of important information.
Cheers, Ozzie

Blondie....did you attend a KH in the vicinity of WT Farms? I attended one withmy family in the 1984-93 timeframe about 10 miles from the farm. was an elder in one of the local congregations with 33% bethelites. Congregation had 20 elders! 15 elders from the farm...some real "heavies" also included.

There are a lot of advantages to the relocation from the WTBTS's perspective, chiefly financial. They can reduce staff, lower their cost of operation and cash in on the still-supoerheated NYC residential housing market, especially since so much of their properties have `to-die-for" NY harbor and Manhattan skyline views.
Of course, Metatron's point, a further collective withdrawal into Jonestown-like unreality as Bethelites reduce to virtual isolation their already-minimal interaction with the public at large, is an apt one. At least now, their assignments in local congregations necessitates their use of public transportaytion, subways and buses.
With all of this talk about upgading and improving, the dubs seldom pause to reflect on the degradation of the quality of their books, to the point thay they can hardly be called ``bound books" anymore. And Willyoman's observation about their duplicity with regard to their role in society at large and their circulation claims is also dead-on. Mountains upon mountains of Watchtowers and Awake! magazine are throwaways.. a tragic squandering of resources.

Blondie says:
That means that elders from Bethel will not be available for congregational assignments like the local brothers who get dumped on to take assignments at the last minute and handle all the maintenance issues at the KH.
Oh goodie, we're going to need more elders. Maybe I should start going back to the meetings?
Seriously, even if they have a staff reduction, some people will remain in the area so they can
help spread the good newscontinue dating local sisters. -

Proandcon, so you can tell I speak with the voice of experience. Did you go to Walden?. Yes, I was in that area for awhile. Can't say which congregation though. Do you remember the circuit assembly when the CO had 2 sets of brothers come out and play tug of war with a rope on the stage? He said that was the way the elder bodies were and that in spite of the years of service of the brothers involved, that there was no unity. Too many chiefs and not enough Indians. Wait till Brooklyn Bethel moves up there. There will be even more chiefs. On a side point, interestingly, if brothers were looking for sisters to date around the Farm, they had stiff competition. There were few single sisters who hit 18 that weren't married before they were 19. Some brothers with marriageable daughters moved their whole familes into the area and then moved back to their old congregation after the last daughter walked down the aisle.

So, what could the real reason for this "reorganisation" be? I wonder???!!!!
Over the last couple of years, the management of the oganization has been taken away from the Governing Body and given to a board of directors. While the Governing Body was probably more sentimental about the Brooklyn location, the newer, younger people in charge of managing things are probably less attached and more business savy. Upgrading machinery, cutting workforce, it all makes good business sense. As well as farming out printing to other areas of the globe to make it available faster, take advantage of a lower cost of doing business, and save on shipping. Whether or not the organization has profit as a bottom line, any non-profit organization should be implementing cost-cutting measures.
And Willyoman's observation about their duplicity with regard to their role in society at large and their circulation claims is also dead-on. Mountains upon mountains of Watchtowers and Awake! magazine are throwaways.. a tragic squandering of resources.
Yeah, think of all God's trees that were cut down to print that much paper. Talk about those ruining the earth!!! Why not publish them in PDF on the web? Even for a download fee? They could say it's for bandwidth if they want to. Oh, but that would be selling and potentially taxable.
