Next, they'll claim they helped the Iraqi's beat Saddam!
LOL @ Obi!
Okay, just to set the record straight here. I lived in NY at the time of 9/11, and I personally knew an elder in my congregation who did the work that the Awake is discussing.
I don't know whether the area where they were working was officially "ground zero" or not, but it was within the restricted area that required special passes to enter.
And no, it wasn't immediately after the tragedy; but it was shortly thereafter.
They can't ever seem to set the record straight...tsk tsk
Why lie about it and write untruths? weird...
Honestly, I'm not sure that they did lie in this particular case. Does anyone have a copy of the 1/8/02 Awake, so we can see what they actually claimed?
I asked the person who posted this,if there was a way he could post the info.

Well, I haven't read the Awake article. And whether this person actually DID talk to whomever during that time, I have to ask what the significance of it really is. My mom tried to make a big deal about Bethelites "feeding and sheltering" victims of 9/11. My firm belief is that there was probably just a bit too much REAL non-JW heroism displayed during this time...took the focus of the JW's supposed self-sacrificing martyrdom. Personally, I don't know what the context of the Awake magazine's contents were or WHO this particular elder was, but I don't doubt for a minute their attempt to spin the event to make the "brothers" look heroic, while the rest of the world less so.
This is believable and unbelievable at the same time....
Ummmm if they claimed they were allowed into "ground zero" then they're liars.
I think they believe it is good to 'baffle them with bull****'. You know, if you don't have facts, just make something up that's close enough to the truth so that people won't question it too much.
When my aunt and family lost their house and all possessions to fire (no insurance) they received little help from their 'brothers & sisters', but I guess that wouldn't get lots of publicity. 9/11, OTOH, is a big deal so they want to horn in on the heroic side of it.
