    The Truth vs. the truth

Get LIBERTY (sept/oct 03) and read this article and send it to friends/family everyone. It's very well written and researched, a gem! If you can't find a copy, pm me with your email address. :)

I am in the middle of reading this article and I had to stop and post this.

Even thought I am only 2/3 of the way through it, it is one of the best articles I have ever read about JW's, very easy to follow and it moves quickly through the whole story. It is only 8 pages, but in those pages (I'm up to 6) are contained a wealth of to-the-point information. The examination of the WTS and the effects of the internet on it are especially great.

This really needs to get posted online somewhere. As word spreads about it I'm sure it will be. There are alot of you here on this board that will enjoy comments made about you, even if your name is not directly used.

    Hats off to you Stephen

First off--niffty journal, never come in contact with it before. (Not surprising since it took me about five minutes to find it in the sea of mags at B & N)

The first half is wonderful, if for no other reason than it gives newbies a quick and dirty of the history of the WBTS.

I also enjoyed the look at the way social trends still influence how the organization handles itself and the comparison that it has begun to act in an annonymous fashion, much like the internet. Not sure I 100% agree, but it is an interesting idea to ponder, and really makes their whole claim of being "no-part of the world" laughable if they pattern themselves on social movements/phenomenon, ways of organizing. I have always wondered how anything that works within a larger system can claim to not be influenced by the larger system, and have always found the Witnesses desire to distinguish themselves from that larger system a simple attempt to draw a martyr like attention to themselves.

Also an interesting article to read about the evolution of the Witness-related discussion boards and I found the observations to be spot on.

I just have to ask tho, what's the interest in JW's and JW discussion boards? Obviously you've followed or researched them extensively. What was the initial interest if you don't mind me asking...I was hopeful to find a bio at the end of the article but didn't see any information.

    Hello, Professor Cox!

Did you get my music CD yet? I waited the whole dang summer to send it to you, but I finally did!

Next time I'm in our town, dinner is on ME! It's about dang time, old friend.

For the folks who don't know Professor Cox: he is a MAJOR player in not only the Libertarian philosphy, but also one of the world's experts on Ayn Rand. He is is player that is well-respected and well-published. He wrote a book on the Titanic disaster that he gave to me before we had dinner one night. That book shattered a bunch of myths about the Titanic. He manages the Humanities department at a Major University in the US and knows more about the JW movement than most high-ranking JWs. He is also one of the kindest and nicest and humble people I know. I love and respect Steven in more ways that I can articulate. He is a friend that is true as friends can be.

He sometimes asks me for advice and my opinion.

Therefore, he is a total idiot!

Several years ago he asked me to write a book on dubs. And promised me on his grandmother's grave that he would guarantee that he would make sure it never got published.

So I wrote the book, and sure enough Steven kept his word! You just gotta love a guy who keeps his word like that!

I'm not very good at business stuff.......

I have never seen Professor Cox post before and I've known him for years. As soon as I emerge from the cardiac arrest division where I had to go after I saw his post, I will try to collect my thoughts.....

: Professor Cox, I am assuming you are the same person that is quoted on the back cover of the paperback In Search of Christian Freedom, by Ray Franz. Perhaps you could illuminate the board about how this came to pass and what directed your attention to Jehovah's Witnesses. Yes, he is the same person. Professor Cox has met Ray Franz on several occassions. He is not nor has ever been a dub. He's a student of religion, especially really goofy ones. Sorry, Steven. I should not speak for you, but you told me this, and since you are now going public, I hope you don't mind if I make this brief comment in your behalf. Farkel
