Stinky.........I just read that when people start asking" what consitutes being an alcoholic" that that is the first and biggest sign!.......................................( not really)

if your using alcohol to medicate... that's a problem... maybe talking about it would be better than having that drink.

    I disagree.

Is taking an asprin for a headache a weakness? Is having someone rub your back because it hurts a weakness? Because the minds gets tired and stressed is it a weakness to have something to calm you down or make you happier? I think not.

People are always quick to jump on booze but think nothing of popping a xanax, or valium, to calm them down. People look at weed the same way......".oooooooh! Thats bad .....why would a person handle problems that way" they say. To take in an outside substance to make you feel better on occation is not bad in itself, if what you are ingesting doesn't harm you or others.

I also realise that a person who cannot do without an outside substance to feel better could develop problems and there is a need to be aware of that.

Now....all the serious stuff aside...........I would you like to give me a call stinky when you get good and toasty and I'll be right over...........and rub your sore back)

Hey gal.......you hit a sore spot with me too. I get sick of people generalizing what is wrong and right in this dept. There are so many things we do in life to aid us in feeling better. People use all kinds of things to do it, as life IS tough and sometimes gets so tuff we want to take a break from it and feel good or relaxed untill we really have to deal with it.

When I come home from a long hard day......I have a beer or two. If I'm major stressed I might have 4. I also know in my heart I have no problem with booze too. If I didn't have the beer in my fridge....I don't panic and run to the store because" I just gotta have it". I think a person usually knows if they have a problem. To have a drink in the morning is out of character for many and so for you or I to do it.....".makes us feel funny".....like "man...that's kinds early isn't it"? In reality morning is no different than evening as far as stress goes and the desire to squish it.

Have a drink for me as I'm off to work. Don't fall in the kitchen and bust your head on the counter while I'm away......OK?

Stinky, you are obviously depressed, and fairly seriously so and you are medicating yourself to hide your depression behind an alcoholic haze. If you were to see a psychologist right now, I'm certain he would give you an antidepressant, something like celexa as Effexor will make you gain weight.

When you get to the point in depression that you're using alcohol to self medicate, you're in deep ka ka. Please do something NOW to help yourself before you get in too deep. Then you'll have a helluva time getting back out.

Taken from an Alcoholics Anonymous website at http://www.alcoholics-anonymous.org.nz/html/faq.cfm

    "Could I be an Alcoholic?

Only you know the answer to this. There is no medical test for alcoholism.

Ask yourself the following questions and answer them as honestly as you can.

    1:

Is drinking making your home life unhappy?

    2:

Does your drinking make you careless of your family's welfare?

3: Do you drink because you are shy with other people?

4: Is drinking affecting your reputation?

5: Do you drink to escape from worries or trouble?

    6:

    Do you drink alone?

7: Have you lost time from work due to drinking?

8: Has your ambition decreased since drinking?

9: Has your efficiency decreased since drinking?

10: Is drinking jeopardizing your job or business?

11: Have you ever felt remorse after drinking?

    12:

Are you in financial difficulties as a result of your drinking?

13: Do you turn to or seek an inferior environment when drinking?

14: Do you crave a drink at a definite time each day?

15: Does drinking cause you to have difficulty sleeping?

16: Do you want a drink the next morning?

17: Do you drink to build self-confidence?

18: Have you had a complete loss of memory as a result of drinking?

19: Has your doctor ever treated you for drinking?

20: Have you ever been in hospital or prison because of drinking?

If you have answered YES to any one of these questions, there is a definite warning that you may be alcoholic.

If you have answered yes to two or more, the chances are that you are an alcoholic.

Why do we say this? - because the experience of hundreds of thousands of recovering alcoholics has taught us some basic truths about our symptoms - and about ourselves."

And Wine that makes glad the heart of man.God gave it to us ,Psalm 104:15

Drink your Wine with a merry heart,Ecclesiastes 9:7

Use a little Wine for thy health sake,1tim.5:23

Now for every scripture that is positive with God's blessing concerning drinking, there are many that warn of the dangers of too much drinking.

So,what is too much, each must decide for oneself. However, moderation in all things is the best way.

One must also take into consideration that one causes no harm to oneself or others. The purpose of drinking should result in joy, relaxation, refreshment, good effects on the heart and body and soul.

To go contrary to this and cause harm to yourself and others defeats the purpose of it all.

Blueblades, who can take it or leave it,been there done that.

As I've been told by friends in recovery, if you mentally subtract alcohol from your life and see that you would make different choices and your life would be different... that's a problem.

Hi, my name's Phantom, and I'm here to listen :)
