Looks like its going the way I think it should go. Rebuild large office buildings for functionality. Respect the victims by including a memorial. That real estate is much to valuable to become solely a memorial site. I also think rebuilding sends a signal that we won't be knocked down permanently.
What should replace twin towers?...

It has to be a commercial building. That's probably the most expensive real estate in the country.
And yes guys, bigger is better.

Doing nothing with the site is to admit defeat.
The site can be built upon to bring honor to the lives lost, be used in a manner befitting to the site as the center of the financal world, and outdo the previous architectural design for the towers with a new, forward thinking design to grace the NYC skyline.
Here's info on the final selected design:

Simon, don't you think that's a bit too sarcastic? We don't rebuild and try to regain some of the economic power to the middle of New York , then the terrorists win IMO. Our economy and the victims were intertwined in all kinds of ways, not to mention the large contingent of global businesses that were there. Politics, memorials, business, national pride, are all interdependent in this scenario and I think and to say that there will just be a plaque is absurd.
Here are some of the designs..

Oy ya big pussy!...*LOL* Hey Brumms...I think both. The Gaudi design looks cool to me..
I was not going to post my first thoughts of this picture. Then I finished reading this thread.
I think perhaps just one very large building in the shape of
a hand with its middle finger extended. Why does Dolly Parton need to be replaced?
And yes guys, bigger is better
I think there is reason to suspect, something subliminal is taking place.

BTW, the previous WTC 1 & 2 were 1,350 feet high each.
The new will rise to over 1,770'

How about we move the statue of liberty to where the WTC was but only when they rebuild it this time we put lady liberties head up her ass where it's been for the past 100 yrs.

I don't mean to be dismissive - that's not my intention.
I just belive that priority will be given to commercial interests and the spiritual / commemorative side will take a back seat ... unless people fight for it.
I didn't put any value judgement on this, it's just what I believe will happen. I do think it's the right thing to do. To leave it vacant would be absurd.
It would be good to see something impressive where the towers were as they were impressive themselves.

(Heathen, Your name fits. That's awful what you said. Of course you're entitled to your opinion but do I need to remind you that thousands of innocent people were murdered?) As a New Yorker, I like the idea of a respectful memorial like the one planned - I do think that site is holy ground, no matter what you think politically those people didn't deserve to die like that. I wish it could be a peaceful park dedicated to the victims but in the real world, that's prime real estate and practically speaking, the commercial buildings are a good idea, the skyline would look great. But I love Freeman's suggestion even better, lol - V Sky
