Welcome kj: The word, in my experience, was that persons of strong faith never mixed with Babylon, (churches). I turned down working for churches because I was told I would lose my MS status! Maverick

I think most would not set foot in a church, but I've known some who have gone to funerals and an occasional wedding. It is a conscience matter.
In 1989 we went to special conventions in Poland and part of the tour included tours of very old churches all over Poland and on our secondary trip to the UK. One of the District overseers on our bus made a big deal out of our going into the churches, but my husband said they were of historical interest and we were going. He ended up going too, but you could tell he was pretty uncomfortable, as if a demon were going to fly in his face at any moment.

I remember when I was still "in" and going to college (one of the lucky few), there was a church that had been made a part of the campus. It was an old classic looking church... bricks, stones and reaching towers. It took me awhile to get used to going in it... I kept getting the JW Church Willies. It was odd... my conscience did not bother me one bit about going inside. I was just "programmed" to have an adverse reaction to a church. I remember trying to explain it to someone I had classes with... he thought it was the strangest thing he had ever heard.
Throughout my entire college education, I did not every totally get over the JW Church Willies. It wasn't until about a year after I DAed myself that I attended a friend's wedding at a church and felt perfectly comfortable in it.

I have a question, is it true that JWs are forbidden to set foot in any church other than the Kingdom Hall?
Yep. Nina and I would have gotten into trouble with the elders if we had told them we went into Westminster Abbey during one of our London trips.

welcome kj,
is it true that JWs are forbidden to set foot in any church other than the Kingdom Hall?
as the watchtower puts it, nothing is forbidden, but it is strongly SUGGESTED that you probaly should not do such a thing and that it will bother your conscience. So otherwise DO NOT !!

Yep, well I have never been into a church, I still am having trouble getting over that one. It must have been strong in me because when I was about 4 yo I pointed out a church to my parents and said "'hovah gunna choong that down, isn't he mum." They thought it was pretty funny and it was a family story for years. I used to have trouble even looking at a church.

Thanks again to all of you for your insight and the warm welcome. You all give me hope that there ARE people who escape the JW's and have happy lives again. My mom is my best friend, I want so badly for her to see what a bunch of crap they are feeding her. God Bless you all!
