    G'day all,

    How's the weekend going?

Mrs Ozzie and I enjoyed a beach picnic with friends. Yes, there was plenty of shiraz! It didn't take us too long to travel to the coast. There was a strong breeze blowing but very invigorating! About 12 friends joined us.....yep, there's life after the Borg, folks!

On the way to the coast we travelled over some ranges which only last summer had been burned out in the bushfires. We were impressed with how well the vegetation has re-grown. And there was something quite magical......scores of waratahs have grown in large clumps along the roadside. The waratah is the state emblem of New South Wales and figured in the decorations for the Sydney Olympics. To see so many growing is simply amazing, let alone so soon after bushfires. Another wonder of creation.

So, are you ready with a cuppa as we spend some time reminiscing in another weekend poll?

Got the cuppa yet? Visit Smiley Central! Good. This weekend's poll question is:

How would you describe the Congregation accounts report?

    1. Uses up five minutes of the Service Meeting

    2. Informs the R&F how their money is being spent.

    3. Informs the R&F how little they're giving!

    4. Doesn't inform.

    5. Given by someone who is fluency challenged.

    6. Given by someone who has absolutely no control over anything.

    7. Is a really fine example of how the loving brothers care for us! Visit Smiley Central!

    8. Another example of where the elders decide everything for us.

    9. Is a truly responsible document.

    10. Is a truly irresponsible document.

    11. Other (please detail)

Looking forward to the results of this one, so....get your replies in! Enjoy!

    Cheers, OzzieVisit Smiley Central!

    12. I WAS the accounts servant.

I'd keep it in my pockets for weeks and then bank it at the end of the month.

    (a) shows the society is so loving by asking the cong. to repay that 'generous' loan

    (b) give us more..more & even more...because after all...just because the books are now given free due to Jehovah's blessings ...that doesnt mean you should just take them

Good to hear you had a great weekend ozzie

How would you describe the Congregation accounts report?

    2. Informs the R&F how their money is being spent.

If done accurately by a competent brother, it shows how much the congregation is paying the WTS for the loan on the KH, how much the heat/AC/phone costs (if the teenagers are making long-distance calls during the meeting), what goes into the maintenance fund (the real money concealer).

    3. Informs the R&F how little they're giving!

Yes, when the brother loudly announces that the congregation is $1,000 in the hole (or more) there is usually a sudden flurry of donations after the meeting which dies off by the next.

    6. Given by someone who has absolutely no control over anything.

This is definitely true. The servant in charge has to get approval from the PO on how to pay the bills especially if the congregation is running behind in donations.

    8. Another example of where the elders decide everything for us.

    See #6

    9. Is a truly responsible document.

Depends on the competency/honesty of the brother assigned. I have known of 3 brothers over the years that were removed because of dipping into the till.

    10. Is a truly irresponsible document.

    $500 to WTS

    $200 to utilities

    $1500 to maintenance fund

There is never a reading/accounting to the congregation of what is spent from the maintenance. It is amazing the number of purchases that are made from this fund that the congregation never knows about.

    Hi

    I would say 1 & 4.

Like Englishman, I too, was the accounts servant. I remember how the brothers' eyes would glaze over as I read the accounts report.I would be thinking, "I could tell these poor zombies that I had invested the maintenance fund in Enron stock and they wouldn't bat an eyelash."

The maintenance fund-what a joke that was at our hall! If a light burnt out in the hallway it would put us in the red and cause a string of elder's meetings to discuss the situation. That was a pretty "ungiving" congo.

    Oz, it's #11...Other....to me....

It showed how brazenly the Gov. Potty used donations from the congregations for building new KH's.....by LOANING money TO the congregations...moneys which had ALREADY BEEN collected from the congregations for the building fund....and then expecting the congregations to PAY BACK to the Gov. Potty, THAT WHICH THEY HAD DONATED IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! (ie: their own money, donated, then loaned back to them for repayment) Of course, the accounts report didn't even mention all the free labor gleaned from the congregations for these projects...
