It seems that politics are once more taking over the board.

When things are discussed properly it's not a problem but alas, it seems some can't help but start throwing insults and labels around. I keep reading about "you left wing communist loving liberals" and "right wing facists" and really, it's getting very tiresome.

Can I suggest we tone it down PLEASE

Think before you post and don't be surprised if you include insults in your post that it will just be deleted.

Also, unless you are interested in having a discussion and hearing opposing points of view without getting all pissy about it then don't post ! This isn't a big soapbox for people to announce and shout their political opinion from.

Finally, we decide what is and isn't appropriate on the forum and have the right to edit or delete anything as we see fit.

If something is removed then it's done for a reason. If you want an explanation then ask for one and be patient.

I really don't think it is that big a deal - I have had topics locked and things deleted and I haven't made a big fuss about it even though I may have disagreed with the decision.

Lastly, I'm not going to put up with a string of topics complaining about things being deleted or locked. The forum is run how we think it should be run and material that we feel to be offensive or violating the postoing guidelines removed. Please refer to the terms of use.

    Thank you.

I'm all for that, ...as long as it's applied equally both ways...so far, in my humble opinion...it's not been done equally.

Yes, it will be applied equally but please consider this: I will get complaints FROM BOTH SIDES both accusing me of treating them unfairly.

So please, give me time to do things. If you think I've missed something them point it out to me via PM.

    Controversial subjects:

Abortion, Capitol Punishment, evolution, gun control, right vs left, American Imperialism. Free Will vs Determinism.

Why are these things brought up on this forum. Do people on this forum only go to JWD. Don't they know about search engines. Have the ever typed these subjects into google, excite etc. There are millions of hits. If you want to research these subjects you will find more than enough to challenge your pet ideas.

Recently a discussion was raised about "Bowling for Columbine". This movie has been critiqued ad nauseum.

What I enjoy on this forum are personal life stories. New ideas to challenge JW teachings. New ideas that defend JW teachings (rare event). I like to post stuff on prophecy because my ideas are "different" and I would love to have someone really rip them to shreds.

I understand the purpose of fluff subjects to allow a little flirting but I'm too old to get very interested in that.

And I like to hear oppinions expressed as world events unfold.

I don't think there is anything wrong with mentioning your political viewpoint as it may help others know your orientation. But I think it is best if this is done in the context of some other subject and not as Simon says on a Soap Box.

Basically I love to hate this forum.

I found this in a course description on responsible communication, and it seems to apply to what's going on at the moment.

"To a great extent, your professional effectiveness depends on your capacity to interact with other people - patients, clients, colleagues, and supervisors...We will concentrate on ways to replace making judgments with strong listening and understanding skills."

It's been said that there are three ways to listen to others, but only one can result in learning anything:

    1) Agree with (head nods). The implication here is "I already knew that".

    2) Disagree with (head shakes). The implication here is "I already knew that.

    3) Be with the speaker. Let go of judgement, listen with your whole being, let go of the knee-jerk reaction and the judgemental conversation in your head, and just listen. This is the only one that can result in learning.

Too many of us (myself included) have been stuck in 1) and 2). If we work consciously on getting to #3, we might learn something.

Simon, before you stepped off of your soapbox you said:

you left wing communist loving liberals" and "right wing facists"

Does that exclude right wing communist loving liberals, and left wing fascists !

And is whinging the Brit equivalent of whining, not to be confused with wining, i.e. ozziepost ! LOL ! Or is it some English way of doing chicken wings ?

Seriously I have to agree with proplog2:

    Amen to that.

I wish people would take the time out to use the "search" feature, and see if a recent topic has been posted in the past few months.

Newbies, we love to have you here, but if you post a topic we have discussed in depth just a short time ago, chances are you will not receive much of a response, and get discouraged by the lack of interest / replies.

I will now end my whinging whining, and get off of my soapbox.

xjw_b12, who always does a manual spell check, and usually messes up anyways.

Nah. It's actually whingeing, sounds like winjing.

Ah..not so simple. If Manchester United get stomped on then Simon becomes very .

..But if Manchester City get stomped on then it's extremely .
