Did you have any unusual experiences while you were a Witness?.......I was working out in service with an old brother who was as zealous as anyone I ever knew. He would knock on the door a number of times, ring the bell, knock on the window and ring the bell again. If he believed someone was home, he'd wear down the householder to open that door. If nobody would come to the door, he would (if need be) urinate on their lawn. (if he had to go, he had to go).......

Maybe he was testing to see if they were really home but hiding.

Once, my FS partner stopped a teenage girl walking down the street to offer her the mags. The girl was polite, and while listening to the sermon, stepped backward into a pile of dog turds. We tried to tell her, "watch where you're stepping," she didn't seem to hear us. She kept moving her feet nervously, (probably wanting to run away) and smeared it all over her shoes and the side walk.

While we were talking to her, our FS group caught up with us, and one of the elderettes went right up to her and said, "You're stepping in dog poop." The girl turned red, but continued to make polite chit chat because my partner was on a roll. We finally said goodbye to her so she could go home and clean her shoes.

Back in 1976, an issue of Awake featured a cover story entitled "The Gay Life - Is It Really Gay?". Being a gay person myself, I felt very uncomfortable offering this issue to householders, but dutifully did so nonetheless.

One Saturday morning, while out in field service with two pioneer "sisters", I rang a bell and a man answered the door. My "gaydar" instantly went on alert. Not knowing what else to do, I offered the man the Awake magazine. He took one look at the cover, then looked at me (his "gaydar" was working, too), and he burst into hilarious laughter. He laughed so hard that I started laughing, too. The pioneer "sisters", who were on the opposite side of the street, gave me a dirty look. Apparently you're not supposed to have a good laugh with householders while out in field service.

Wiping the tears of laughter off my face, I bid the man good day (I did not place the magazine). When I was back in the car with the two pioneers, they asked me if I had written the man down as a "return visit", which sent me into hysterical laughter once again. No, I didn't go back.

Here's another unusual experience....I was reading the Watchtower on the platform one Sunday when an "unbelieving husband" came into the Hall and shouted to the conductor, "I WANT TO TALK TO YOU RIGHT NOW". The WSC said, "Not now". The husband yelled, "I WANT TO TALK TO YOU NOWWWWW! You've been FU***NG MY WIFE!". AT that point he go on the platform, knocked the lecturn over and went to grab him. Yours truly grabbed the man and held him for what appeared to be an eternity. The whole congregation was in shock! Finally I said, "Is anybody going to come here and help me?" Then a former pro heavyweight boxer grabbed him from me and then another brother escorted him outside while someone called the police.......A few weeks later the elder got deleted and his wife left him.
