Osarif, thanks for finding and posting the schedule.

I left in 1977. What slackers these modern JW's are! Back then, our District Assemblies always ran 4 days, not just 3, and we had evening sessions, too! Think I'll write Brooklyn . . . NOT!

It will be interesting to hear what the "new provisions for spiritual advancement" are. I've got some great ideas on that subject, but the GB doesn't want to hear them.

My ass is already starting to hurt.

By the way, has anyone noticed the plethora of symposiums that
have popped up over the past few years? As near as I can tell,
a symposium is just three regular talks, packaged as one big
talk. It sounds like a futile attempt to break up the monotony by
convincing the audience that these are not just talks, they are
"special" - almost like a drama, but not quite.

When I read the title of the drama on Sunday, "Respect Jehovah's Authority," all I can picture is:

    Respect my Authori-taay!

Thanks Osarif for posting the Convention program. This dovetails with a similar post I made yesterday about the convention.

In the 1960s the focus was on teaching and being equipped to handle objections, and dig into Bible references to prove the 'truth.' I recall this extending into the early 1970s. After that sometime, the focus seem to change to not "debating" with people, but look for 'sheep-like' ones who were ready for the 'truth'.

Then, I recall about the late 1980s and early 1990s before I walked away from it all, the Society was gearing up again to defend their belief system against attacks by 'apostates.' That is supposedly one of the reasons for the expanded Blood Brochure and the new Trinity Brochure. But, the interesting thing is that few ex-JWs (aka: Apostates) really push the Trinity. It is more of a straw-man approach for the Society to do this.)

Now, with this upcoming convention, the Society seems like they are going to try and equip JWs to engage in 'intellectual combat' with those who are making serious challenges. Just a guess on my part. But, I am curious if they really are trying to do this, and if so, what kind of junk they will publish that they believe will really work.

I am astounded that they are not losing more followers as we have arrived in the 21st Century. Their theology is proven dead meat. But, somehow they have managed to keep a large number of brain-dead members. Oh Well, it looks like we have our work cut out for us too.

I noticed that program also discusses pornography. Likely, a lot of JWs are peeking at the nude sites. They have their work cut out for them given all the perverts that seem to be emerging within their religion. - Amazing

You know what? I noticed that too. Growing up the conventions were always 4 days starting on Thursday. Then they started a half day on Thursday now just Friday.

In addition, I find it very interesting that I know more about the program, the book to be released, speakers, etc. then the Rank and File do. Hysterical.

From the gossip on "loyal" JW sites I've been picking up, it sounds like this DC may be the most vitriolic and donkey-whipping for some time.

The program seems to confirm that, full of parts on following authority and hating treachery (read apostates) and symposiums on blood-thirsty minor prophets and a "hard-hitting" drama.

Oh, and the usual attack on the internet, disguised as a talk about pornography. More mind conditioning: internet = pornography and evil.

I wont be going this year. Probably drop my wife off and go antique hunting in the Niagara region instead. WOOHOO!

IN RESPONSE TO THE 2001 ASSEMBLY PROGRAM. THESE TALK TITLES ALL LOOK THE SAME AS THEY DID YEARS AGO. DO THE BROTHERS KEEP DRAWING THESE OUT OF A HAT OR WHAT? I SAY, "SAME OL SHIT" DIFFERENT SUMMER.

    Sunday:

BE TEACHERS IN VIEW OF THE TIME -- Hebrews 5:12

My question: what time? Hebrews is being mis-applied and taken totally out if context to fit the theme of the day that the world is soon to end. Not that out-of-context scriptures won't be found all over the program.

As for the progam, it looks like most of the other 30 DC's I attended in my years from the mid 60's as a small kid. I am sure this is just a cut 'n paste job. It must easy putting these programs togther. Yawn!!!!!!
