You think 4 day assemblies were bad! My father in law told me when my husband and his sister were little (The late 1960s) they had a special EIGHT day assembly! OH MY GAWD, can you even imagine?????? Oh the humanity!

    BW,

Ha! Can I imagine? I still have nightmares!!!! When I was very small, I am guessing around 4 or 5 (my OLDER sister would be able to verify the year ), we had a 3 month long (well, it SEEMED like it) assembly in a place called The Cow Palace...now, this is Florida, it was summer time, and this was a place that normally housed thousands of cows....you get the picture?? It was an appropriate place for a convention...we were packed in like cattle; there wasn't adequate seating; nor was there adequate air conditioning or ventilation...AND these were the days of evening sessions as well...I probably fell asleep and fell off my bench, yes I said BENCH, by about 7 pm....
    Now doesn't that sound fun??

One other convention I remember from when I was young was an international (I think) convention in Hallandale Florida, again in the summertime. We sat on folding chairs in the middle of the field of an open stadium...through the sun, the downpours of rain, the bombing practice of the birds....

Yep, those were the good ole days....may they never come again!

I remember 8 day International assemblies with morning afternoon and evening sessions. Amazing.

4 day district conventions were bad enough, usually starting in the afternoon on Thursdays. I remember they used to go to about 630 or 7 when I was a kid.

There is so much interesting stuff to say about life and about the Bible, its stunning to me how boring they could make the talks.

I REMEMBER THE '69 INT'L CONVENTION IN ATLANTA. HOT!!! WAS THE PROBLEM. IT WAS 7 DAYS LONG. SESSIONS WERE MORNING AFTERNOON AND NIGHT. WE STAYED WITH SOME NON-JW FAMILY IN THE ATLANTA AREA AND FINALLY STAYED IN A HOTEL THE LAST DAY. WE SLEPT ON FLOORS THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME.

THEN I REMEMBER THE ONE IN HALLENDALE FLA AS WELL. I THINK I WAS 13 AT THE TIME 1973?? LONG...LONG ...LONG. MY DAD AND I PLAYED IN THE ORCHESTRA SO WE GOT TO SIT IN THE A/C ROOM THE ENTIRE TIME AND "WATCH" THE PROGRAM ON A SATELLITE FEED. WE WATCHED EVERYONE ELSE SUFFER.

MY MOM SUFFERED A REALLY BAD SUNBURN FROM THE ONE IN ATLANTA. SHE HAD A THIRD DEGREE BURN ON HER NECK. THE SCAR WAS THERE TILL SHE DIED JUST OVER THREE YEARS AGO.

I AGREE WITH YOU GUYS. THE SUBJECTS HAVE CHANGED DIRECTION AND THEY ARE JUST GRABBING AT ANYTHING TO KEEP EM COMING BACK FOR MORE.

    ARGH!!!!!!

Thanks for posting that convention program Osarif!. I will have a few days to steel myself for what is to come. You guys are really scaring me; I have to be in attendance at the local District Conv. this weekend! Oh, the anticipation is building for hearing all those timely warnings about the dangers of apostate treachery and internet contamination. Well, maybe I will be a good little witness, and take notes (on the more outrageous statements and assertions) and then share them with everyone next week!

    Expat Brit,

There is sure to be a large contingency of Apostates at Niagara, there always is. That was the first place I ever saw Apostates in Action!

My dad was an attendant one year that they were especially active, and one especially brave apostate made an effort to make it on stage during the Keynote prayer on Sunday, yelling the whole time. Imagine that poor Apostate's surprise when he got jacked clean off the floor and a hand clapped over his mouth by an ExMarine/ExCop ha ha ha and carried outside, and discharged on the sidewalk. HA HA HA I am still laughing.....

The other attendants told my dad, the next time maybe we could just 'carefully escort him.'

Anyhow EPB there is a diner in Niagara that serves the BEST chicken wings--it looks like an old railroad car--ask around you won't be disappointed.

YUMMMYY LMR will you get me a hoagie and a bag of corn chips, a chocolate pudding and a warm lemon lime Shasta?
