Double Edge...I'm left wondering where your coming from. The point of my thread was to illustrate the ability to "see" meaningful counsel in any text purported to be such. The great lengths Mormon apologists go to defend their faith mirrors that of Bible believers. Their arguements on the surface appear persuasive and logical while requiring that secular scholarship and intellectual honesty be ignored or distrusted. I feel it is valuable for someone questioning their faith in the Bible to read some Mormon material to grasp how distorted reasoning feels and sounds. Then ask if the same may be happening in their lives. The link you have provided is a good example.

Peacefulpete....
Where I'm "coming from" is not directed to you nor your original post. I've several Morman friends and I've spent hours and hours discussing religion with them (my choice, not theirs), so I feel I know the religion as well as any outsider.... so when I read some of the statements which erroneously proport to be Morman beliefs I tend to roll my eyes and I too wonder where these people are "coming from".
The books of the Bible were written by several authors whereas the Book of Mormon rests upon a single person- Joseph Smith.
The Book of Morman was supposedly written by numerous authors over several hundred years. Now whether you believe that or not is, like the belief in the validity of the Bible, taken on faith. To each their own. -
