America is learning the same lesson that Britain learned almost a century ago. You just can't be number 1 and be liked as well.

Also, people don't hate America despite the aid they give to other countries, they hate America for being able to give the aid.

Sorry, you really ARE damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Saddam let the infrastructure of Iraq go while building 11 Palaces

    okay, Yeru,

    meanwhile, back in the US

(where the inner cities are decaying, people are homeless, but the rich live in fabulous luxury. Been to BelAir, CA or Stamford CT? I have)

think it's past time for the US to focus on domestic issues , it's what we pay the government to do anyway to run our country and provide a decent liveable environment for americans .

    thank you, heathen

... just a thought ... I think you answered your own question lol

    Talespin,

Ya need to go visit a couple of third world countries before you bellyache about US infastructure.

where the inner cities are decaying, people are homeless, but the rich live in fabulous luxury.

sounds to me like you believe in the transfer of wealth...which every socialist country has proven to be damaging to the economy. Listen T the homeless...most of them are there because of drug and alcohol and mental problems...not because we're not building our infastructure.

Inner city decay? Sure, there is some...but there are also great renewal projects to.

The more important question for you though is this...are you willing to let the terrorists have Iraq...making the deaths of soldiers and civilians in Iraq meaningless?

telesin--- I know what you are saying . The poverty level in the US is something that seems to be forgotten thanks to all those big wig politicians who want to play God in world affairs .1 percent of the population control all the wealth in the US . To say that we as a nation should shoulder the responsibility for nation building and education or health care for the entire world is ludicrous . I thought it was pitiful watching GW appeal to the UN for assistance .

The only way to solve these kinds of problems is with education and the free flow of information and freedom of speech... these things are gradually seeping into countries such as mentioned above.

The fundamentalists who are in power are gradually loosing their grip and the populations are demanding more freedom.

Time... time will solve this and man's insatiable desire to be free.

I asked my English ex husband (or Ex-English ex- husband, because, quite frankly, he is NEVER going back), why everyone hates Americans. He said, in a rare moment of what I assume was candor,

    "Jealousy".

Human civilization certainly seems to be progressing. Some cultures/areas/governments are doing it faster than others, but yes; progress seems inevitable. My question is this: How does America keep from being vilified while this progress goes on when every course of action is gonna be condemmed by someone somewhere?

    Heathen,

Americas poor, with some exceptions, live much better lives than do most folks in the third world. I know, I've seen it with my own eyes.

and 99% of all statistics are made up on the spot...your source for the above is what?

Rush limbaugh was throwing those statistics around when clinton was president but I imagine things changed with a republican majority in the white house and congress . GAG

I know I've seen plenty of poverty on many documentary shows but that doesn't justify the fact that americans are suffering . It's also been documented that most of the time whenever aid is given that the feeding and education process never happens anyway because they are too busy trying to buy weapons so they can opress some other miserable country . I think we need some serious reform on foreign and domestic policies .
