Gary, your last bit of info on the NWT and its various release dates is correct. About 1963 they also released a thick volume containing all of the original releases, with the same size font.

The Society actually often used a number of Bibles until the NWT was released in final form in 1961: King James, American Standard, Rotherham's, Young's Literal Translation, Darby, The Emphatic Diaglott, Leeser's, and occasionally any number of others.

As I recall, the New World Translation of the Christian Greek Scriptures (New Testament) was released in 1950. Then, portions of the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) were released at various assemblies thereafter. Eventually, the entire NWT was combined into one book. Many of us continued to use the KJV or the ASV out in service. But the NWT began to be quoted and used by the Watchtower Society as the athoritative translation in its publications.

Wow! Didn't know that. Thanks! Here they used the ASV b 4 the NWT. I never knew one JW to use a KJV. I have led a protected life. Another delusion bites the dust.

It's funny how a Witness I preached to argued with me that the New World Translation was simply a King James Version in updated english. Yeah right buddy.

The first edition of the Greek bible was copyrighted and released in 1950. It was changed and re-released in 1951.

Anybody know what changes were made to it before it was re-released?

. The one I remember the most was the King James Bible. I do remember the "anticipation" of the completed NWT but after that the only thing that I can think of as for as changes was the reference guides down the middle of the pages. I don't remember when they did that the first time. I still have my old KJV in storage and I still have my green bible but it is in poor condition because it was in the trunk of my car for about 10 years under the spare tire. So, it is a bit bent

I do remember that the NWT was released in green and black soft cover with gold trim and a fancy tassel. Green bibles were $1.50 and black (delux) were $3.00 ?
