What Do You Think of Socialism?

Do you support socialism? Is it something that you would want in your country?

Scary - only couple at top of the echelon have (and possess it ALL) and the rest of the populace are all poor but the one thing people learn from history is that they don't learn from history. Sure there's Norway where it's a higher standard of living (not sure it's a true socialism) but once their oil reserves trickle down we shall see. Bad track record (horror story) everywhere else.

I have found that most people have no idea what socialism means and you can find many definitions. I have had 5 different people give me 5 different answers. It is hard to answer this question unless you have done the due diligence to find out what it means in the real world, not on a DB or FB, etc.

So don't be surprised if every person has a different slant.

How did the USA get into that terrible position when its a democracy?

Nope, it won't work in Today's World. But then neither does Democracy or Plutocracy or Oligarchy or any other form of government. Until Corruption, the Love of Money, Endless Wars and Psychopathy are removed from government The People will be exploited. That is the unfortunate history of mankind so far...

Any utopia will not work for one simple reason - humans are involved.

Human nature prevents any utopian society from ever existing. In short - people will always want more than what the need. Even worse - who decides what one person needs and does not need.

Socialism is also based on the negative emotion of envy. You cannot regulate people into prosperity. You can only legislate people into being equally poor.

Total socialism does not work. Its failed every where it has been tried. But even in the USA we have some socialized things. USPS, Military, Roads, Parks system, VA, Medicare and caid, Social Security. A full on socialism country would not work because there is no drive to work. The market would not work as it does now. But that said the market can not be let go to have the "invisible hand" control it because it would be eternal boom and bust and put in human greed and corruption and it would fail. It needs regulation. Capitalism has worked well but it does need regulation. The 2008 crash is a good example of letting markets run themselves. Regulation was cut on lending practices and greed and corruption did the rest. This all said I do believe we need a socialized health care system. It would not be free. Everyone would pay into it, and even let there be copay so some idiot does not run to the Dr every time a kid sneezes. I don't believe in profit for a persons health.

Socialist countries have all turned into basket cases.

The current self-inflicted basket case is Venezuela.

Socialism does not work - hundreds of millions of people suffering and being killed are testament to that..

Capitalism works - the posts to your OP, Min, are all typed out on capitalist lap tops and i-phones, not socialist ones!

To be fair, there are some socialist projects that work and achieve good - our NHS is one example.

The idea being that people contribute to it by paying taxes and it's free at the point of delivery.
