Look at all the literature from the 50's and 60's. This proves the society believe peoples attention spans are shortening, or they assume we are all getting dumber. Who today would happily study the Babylon book, or a WT article witn noooo pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Back then also topics tended towards the more doctrinal, wheras today they are more lifestyle related, ie. how you should be living it.
Looong assemblies.

Ah yes, those were the days. Eight day assemblies. Several pieces of literature, which consisted booklets.and, " Let your Will be Done on Earth. etc etc....
And yes the good old service walking up and down the streets of cities with two large boards on your front and back. Gods Kingdom Rules, or Prince of Peace. etc.etc. and you looked like a dummy. I always thought the apostates looked wierd but JWs were just as stupid looking. Mostly in the 50s and 60s the apostates would print up brochures and put them on the the cars parked in the lots. My dad use to say don't even look at it, it is from the evil slave class. I use to think to myself, what was it that these people had to say that JWs were afraid off.
Now I know. They fear the truth.... I feel sorry for them, when will they wake up and see for them selves that the organization offers them nothing but misery and subject them to a life of hardship. And of course they teach them not the truth of the word of God.. How sad for all those JWs and if you are a JW lurking please consider your life with the WTBS because they are merely men.
You can give your life to God and Christ in other ways, as serving God doesn't mean slaving 5 meetings a wk at the hall, going door to door everyday. We can render worship to God in many facets of our day to day life. Once the society went that way and many witnesses stopped going door to door as they felt they could render service in other ways to their family, their aged parents. their young kids and older children. So the numbers for the service dropped and so the Society had to change everything around and go back to their old way of thinking.
Yes who would want to go to looooooooong assemblies....not me.

"Singing and Accompanying Yourselves with Music in your Hearts"
...renamed to "Singing and Accompanying Yourselves, cause no one else can"
Yes, I remember the 'assemblies' - or the ones in 1969 (International) and 1973(?) - also International, and yet another in 1978(?) - also an International.
These were verrrrrry long assemblies - usually one-week long, and the one in 1969 that I went to was in Kansas City, MO (I think) - in a very baaaad part of town. People opening up their front yards to allow for overflow parking... I was kinda spooked by this sort of thing... although, it is probably normal.
1973 - was held at the Houston Astrodome - a verrrrry large place... I loved it. I liked walking around the perimeter - I could do it in a minimal amount of time... although it wore me out.
1978 - the first time I attended one of these after I had left home. I had a blast at this one... don't remember much about the program... I never did pay much attention. I think this Assy lasted from Tuesday or Wednesday through Sunday. I know that I got there on the Sunday evening prior, to help set up the sound dept. - and we had to wait for a basketball game (or somesuch) to be over. It lasted well late... past midnight. I slept in the back of my Volkswagon beetle - until someone knocked on the window to wake me up in the wee hours.
I remember that they had 'food tickets'. Not very edible. *patooey - spits out cardboard*

Hi Gadget,
So what happened at the assembly when everyone else was supposedly out on the ministry?
Actually, nothing! We were free to
wander around bored to deathfellowship with our brothers and sisters for two hours.GentlyFeral
