    SM62,

I always ended up with indigestion and felt too exhausted to pay much attention to the waffle from the platform.

I know just what you mean! In the early days of marriage we were unable to afford a car, so we had to run everywhere. We would run home from work, rush T then - rush/run to the KH. I always had indigestion. My hubby, if he had an item, would never have T just concentrated on his item - then eat later....at bedtime really. Not at all good for ones health/weight.

The thing's we could of been doing instead!

    Latte,

"My hubby, if he had an item, would never have T just concentrated on his item - then eat later....at bedtime really. Not at all good for ones health/weight."

That rings so many bells. My hubby often has items on the school and he can never eat before the meeting - he eats when he gets home. I remember getting in from work once. I just sat in the chair and closed my eyes and thought "What am I doing? I'm only going to keep hubby happy - why don't I just stay here?" But I didn't - still went to the KH and hated every minute!

I hardly go now - I just find it quite traumatic and upsetting - many reasons

Like Scully said, you hardly ever got a break on the weekends as a JW. Even when you went on a vacation trip, you were "encouraged" to be theocratic and attend the local propaganda session meeting.

The WT Society keeps its followers on a treadmill, so that they won't stop and THINK about what they're involved in. I heard it called "theocratic busyness" and a "protection". Yeah it helps protect the WT Society from losing hold of its members!

It's good to be off the darn treadmill. We were created with a need to pause and reflect on things, it's part of what makes us human.

Good to be away from the congregation of Jehovah's Robots.

my wife never went out on Field Service...I forbid her to do so.

How do you forbid another adult from doing something they want to do without oppressing them?

I am still in awe of my wife who made it all work during those busy years in the organization. She had four children to take care of, meals to prepare, house to clean, clothes to wash and all the other chores of running a household. And she did this for years. Without her I would never have been able to function as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and a "servant" in the congregation.

One time when a circuit servant and his wife were entertained at our house, my wife spent extra time cooking their favorite meal and entertaining them while visiting us. After the meal, the circuit servant's wife got up from the table and said she was going to "relax" before going out in service. She even had the audacity to ask my wife if she was going to join her. My wife said she was sorry but she would be unable to go. The fact was she had too much work ahead of her justing cleaning up after the meal. It was this kind of inconsiderate behavior of the overseers and their wives which eventually made us question the whole organization.

guys, cut Yeru some slack.... the "unbelieving husband forbids it" is a tried and true excuse for the otherwise Zealous JW Wife? to get out of doing anything she doesn't really want to do. Rest assured, if a JW wife really wants to go out in service, she will find ways to do so, since being persecuted by an Unbelieving Husband? packs a huge punch in the martyrdom department.

The Unbelieving Husband? is one of those get-out-of-jail-free-cards that most JWs would give their eye-teeth to have. This excuse can now be used to participate in holiday celebrations with non-JW relatives, provided that no acts of worship take place.

    Love, Scully
