I remember seeing a Watchtower a couple of years back (can't remember which issue...sorry) that had an actual photo of one of the Governing Body members somewhere in Latin America signing copies of the new release at a District Assembly.

Someone tell me THAT isn't idolatry!

There always was quite a buzz going on when you'd hear that a GB member was going to give a talk on a program. I've seen more than a few times, an applause occur BEFORE the speaker went to the lectern! And why do they applaud after a prayer?? What's up with that???

I do not know if it is age -- but quite frankly I do not think the GB in general give good talks -- some COs/DOs and elders give better ones

I often wondered about that. Sometimes at CA's and DC's they would even announce the 'credentials" of the speaker (ie...Bro so and so...37 years in the FT work)...talk about giving undue attention to someone...anyway one of the contentions with birthdays is that JW's do not want to place too much undue attention on an individual...so, for this and some other WT reasoning, no birthdays are celebrated...seems to me there was always far more attention placed on these speakers (their position, "spiritual standing" and talks then could ever be given to a 5 year old at his party

min, applauding after the end of the convention was picked up here in the US after JWs had visited places such as Poland where they did that since the Polish JWs had been under ban and this was a sign of their improving freedom to worship.

    Monkey see, monkey do.

At the last DC I went to, the member of the GB gave the concluding talk one day and basically told every parent out there that if their child were not baptized, the child would die at Armageddon. This was an assembly where an 8 year old had been baptized and used on the program. So every parent with children 8 and older looked aghast. There was not much applause after that and nobody running up to him to shake his hand. He grabbed his wife and made a hasty retreat to the administration room.

In my area, applauding the speakers is lackluster and weak. Probably due to the fact that the talks are so bad. The elders and their wives were told that they had to set the example in clapping more loudly. I'm sure in some areas, especially the East Coast around Bethel, there may be more applause for a GB member, but I have not seen it.

Min that never happened to me, must just have your charismatic personality.

Cas of the rarely applaused speaker class.

Imagine being "encouraged" to clap! Exemplary ones have to set an example in clapping....Too funny!......Most of the oldsters sucked when giving talks. They were awful!.....I'm glad I don't have to hear it anymore,
