Vicki Boer, Watchtower Society and Money

I think the decision by the judge to force Vicki to pay the Society's legal fees even though she won the case is just fundamentally unfair.

This lady was hurt by her father and the Society obviously did something that at the very, very, least was not helpful in her case.

It would seem to me that if the JWs really are the Christians they claim to be, that they would not be seeking to send this legal bill to someone who has already been through so much. It seems to me that the Christian thing to do would be to forgive this debt afterall what do they think Jesus would do in this situation?

But, I guess the JWs really do not ask themselves questions like those...at least the leaders do not seem to. Maybe the Society needs to put its money where their mouth is. I doubt that they will but I would hope they would. This is a case where the JW leaders could really demonstrate the "love" that they claim they have for others that they say no other religion has.

    JS,

I think you're confusing the Witnesses with Christianity. Of course they're looking to claw back the money spent on the case because clawing money is the reason they exist. I wouldnt be surprised if they now sue Vicky for every penny she doesnt have. I cant imagine this case will be common knowledge with the rank and file, seeing as she actually won the case. I'll be highlighting these points with every single Dub I know. My heart goes out to Vicky and her family who have been through years of torment, only to trampled over by this idiotic ruling. Now's the time to really consider Dans Vicky fund: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/59544/1.ashx

Lets just hope something good comes out of this mess

It certainly seems unfair to many of us here but do you see the larger picture? There is a clear message being sent by the Watchtower Society here to all apostates:

DON'T F**K WITH US OR WE WILL MAKE YOU PAY DEARLY

The way I see things, this slap in the face to Vicki is a way of telling all other potential victims who want to bring a lawsuit against the Borganization is that even if you win, you will lose. Our lawyers can punish you and ruin your life even more than you dreamed possible.

If this strategy is successful, IMHO this is only the first step in escalating legal actions against former Witnesses. We have already seen them go after individuals for copyright issues, but I think defamation of character suits (i.e. slander) are down the road.

The biggest thing they have going for them is the inability of the ex-JW community to unite into anything more than a few angry individuals. Hey, have you ever seen a herd of cats? The end result is that we are more like a few angry bees that manage to sting them once in awhile, but some of us get swatted with a rolled up Watchtower.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the WTS drops whatever leins they could legally place on Vicki's assets and will drop the whole thing. They are much more interested in the legal victory than getting any money from her.

I hope you are right Cygnus. But having that ruling stand and putting those leins on her assets if she has any would be a great way to intimidate others who might want to come forward.

P.S. It is good to hear from you again.

What a dumb comment! She sued the Society so love in your mind would be for the brothers in Bethel to say "honey, it was ok to file suit against us so we will pay for all your costs, we love you, please keep suing us", and then you ask what would Jesus do? O.k., let's see. If a person filed a suit against Jesus, then Jesus would pay for their court cases? Get real!

    Sword,

As with most brain dead JW's you care more about how you look as opposed to what is right or just. For the first time in the history of your cult there is a growing voice that is exposing the corruption and self serving hypocrisy of your tax exempt publishing company and it scares the hell out of them. They will do anything to silence them even by bankrupting them and destroying their life. The means justifies the evil and that evil is shining brighter with each and every law suite brought against them. Idiots like you continue to close your eyes to any truth about your cult so as to validate your own worthless existence as you continue to suck on its withering hind tit. You are as guilty as they are by your association with their hypocrisy. They use the law and government to their own advantage while condemning it as a tool of the devil. They hide behind the number of brainwashed idiots such as yourself and cry foul when their disgusting tactics are exposed.
