...the fact that my daughters haven't spoken to me in a year and a half (non-dub related).

I have "sponsored" two young women from Columbia and The Honduras. I am thrilled. I will post the photos as soon as I figure out how.

I did this before, until I ran out of money. I found it most gratifying.

My thanks to Tim, because without his loving support, this wouldn't be possible

Oh, everyone, I didn't tell you all for any commendation. It's just because I'm excited....I can't do much, but I do know from past experience that it does help.

A few persons have told me I was scammed (the last time I did this). I honestly don't think so. The last time it was a young girl from India and a young boy from Colombia. Guess what...if I'm being an idiot, it won't be the first time, it won't be the last time, and I'd rather make a mistake on the side of being a little generous than being stingy.

It's not expensive. It's $15 a month; but not really. When you get finished with the gifts for Xmas, etc., and the emergency funds, it's about $21.00 a month per child. If you don't have money for the special events, "your" child still gets gifts. I figure I can give up snacks at work.

One time, my child in India got mosquito netting. I was a little irritated; I wanted her to get a dress or a sari until someone pointed out that mosquito netting in India might possibly be a big deal...

And oh! The differences in the letters from the last time I did this! The girl from India was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO formal....but the boy from Colombia was just, "I love you."

Amazing the cultural differences in expressing oneself.

Believe it or not, I got flack from my children for doing this last time. They said, "Give ME the 12.00 (that's what it was then) a month.

Like they were deprived at the time.

Hey, want to sponsor someone from Maine? I am pretty damn poor because I am going through college and work, and well its expensive. Had to scrape up quarters to get milk ;) Actually, its not so bad, money just gets tight every once in a while. A Credit Cousuling company screwed me out of $500 :( So depressing and sad....

Berylblue, I'm glad you found what allows you to GIVE with gratification. There is so much need of help out there I'm proud of you. At the same time I hope you keep the doors open to your daughters. That connection is for ever, and who knows what might change in the future. Steve
