Did The Elders Always Talk With You "In A Spirit of Mildness"???

I wouldn't say they were mean, they just nitpicked me to death. I always was getting counseled for having my sideburns too long or having my hair too long. Right before I moved to Seatle from Philly, I was still sort of attending meetings so I grew my hair really really long (for me anyway) to annoy everyone. Ironically I probably look more like a JW now than I ever have (with the exception of my goatee). Good times at the Kingdom Hall.

I once had a disagreement with an elder about the interpretation of a scriptural principle. He said I was wrong to do something, and I thought it was ok. He didn't like the fact I'd done my home work and started quoting watchtowers, etc and refering back to the original greek word for meanings. He was getting agitated and the discussion got a bit heated until he seemed to remember where we were, under the stands at the 2000 convention.

Maybe this is a Jersey thing, but an elder has never yelled at me, no matter what. Some, in particular one, were snide, nasty and condescending, but for the most part, they just laid down the law in a quiet voice.

The catch is, the quiet ones are the ones who will try to ruin you if you 'disobey' them. The whole speak softly and carry a big stick scenario.

You can NEVER correct an elder. It's sinful. So stop it.

The time I mentioned, it wasn't just the elder getting mad, we were both getting heated and bouncing off each other. He stepped down as an elder last January and was DF'd about the same time I was.

how about a circuit overseer and an elder yelling at you in the KH right in front of everyone after a service meeting? i never felt so humiliated.. i was told i didnt have jehovahs spirit anymore and i was taking it away from the congregation..i was not a very good christian and not a good mother...all because i wanted to use tough love on my non jw 18 yr old son. for bringing stolen goods and drugs in my house and because i called the cops on him...... they listened to the line my son spun them and beleived him over a 38 yr old baptised sister in good standing.

ironic aint it? another time one yelled at me cuz my skirt rid up on his part on the service meeting..... he took me outside and let me have it....prik!!

wasnt long after his son dissasociated.....he took it out on me.

so loving and christian of them isnt it?? so mild and all that NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!
