Something is wrong with the government when they resort to interfere with religious freedom.

None of the freedoms of Jehovah's witnesses is being interfered with. They are free to be under the thumb of watchtower if they want to be, and watchtower is free to keep them there under threat. And that undue influence is what Norway decided it could no longer implicitly support by funding. That's how it seems to me.

Smid, based on God things to God. Rarely do the authorities act sua sponte on theses matters. Usually it is because someone complained who has beef against the JW religion.

Fisher one You do understand this is about child abuse right? Presumably you accept the government has a right to step in to protect children??! They are not banning Watchtower merely not giving them official status and by extension a big fat cheque!!

I venture to say that removing tax exemption from all religions in all countries would quickly help distinguish businesses from genuine religious organizations.

    child abuse right

They put children in jail or in custody when they commit crimes. Is that abuse? They put parents of children in jail when parents commit crimes separating from parents and arresting in front of children. Is that abuse? Children get expelled from school is that abuse? All if a sudden because JW have rules of membership for everybody it is abuse because people become bitter and want to get back at Jw through political ties or tge favorite church of the government doesn’t like the religious competition from jw seems to me.Abuse having to do with harming physically mentally or emotionally is under the jurisdiction of the gov.

If false religion is a tool of evil, then any government that gives any kind of aid or consideration to all religions is doing more to promote evil than good, isn't it?

    @ Fisherman

you think governments should subsidize religious groups?

    Hi vid!!!

Remember our heated dialogues in the past. Warm regards to you.

Vid, I think that if gov has a legal standing on some issue, they have authority to compel. Also, if there is a real safety concern. But to pick on JW or anybody else is wrong.

Also, depends on how one defines subsidize. To exclude one group without just reasons is wrong.

Fisherman, they had a reason. Shunning of minors is violating childrens rights.

Indomitable Fish We put children in jail or in custody when they commit crimes. Is that abuse? They put parents of children in jail when parents commit crimes separating from parents and arresting in front of children.

In jailing parents courts take child welfare into account, which is why they rarely jail mothers for minor crimes. But anyway kids still have the right to visit, telephone & write to their jailed parents and vice versa!!! Even an expelled child can talk to his friends outside of school, let alone family!!

This religion mandates the shunning of minors. It happens in the home, even! Witnesses throwing out DF 16 & 17 year olds is common.
