1) They are a NON-PROFIT CORPORATION. That means if money comes in, they must SPEND IT!!! There is a business plan to buy so many presses, ever so often, as LONG AS THE MONEY COMES IN!!! Those presses don't really wear out that fast, though newer ones have newer features.
Balance these:
Rising transportation costs
(-dollars)
Move
(-dollars)
(move reduces transportation costs and saves dollars after the move is paid for, so converts to +dollars in the long run) ,
donations coming in
(+dollars, even if less than it used to be) ,
downsizing reduces "overhead"
(less -dollars, so again, converts to +dollars in the long run) ,
real estate sales
(definite +dollars) .
Bottom line: ++dollars over so many years. More positive offsets than losses, so... therefore:
2) They are doing what they know how to do: buy printing presses!!!
If donations are happening, it does not matter if the magazines are viewed or trashed. Twist the arms to "contribute" and pile them up in the publishers garages, it doesn't matter.
NOTICE: IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT THE DEMAND FOR THE MAGAZINES IS!!! This is where NON-PROPHET becomes NON-PROFIT.
IRONY: the newer presses will make MORE MAGAZINES with LESS PEOPLE for LESS DEMAND!!!
