Assembly Attendence

There used to be conventions in Saskatoon and Regina.

Then it was Saskatoon only and it was at Sask place. If I remember correctly there were about 6000 attending.

There was a convention in Saskatoon this year but at a much smaller venue. I’m not sure how many attended but the building only holds 2500 or so.

Edmonton is coming up in a week or so. Maybe someone can comment on how many attend. None of the jws want to attend Edmonton Because the arena is hard to access for people out of town but I hear that the watchtower gets a good deal on the rent. It is all about the watchtower as you know so the individual jws can just suck it up.

There used to be a convention in Grande Prairie in the early 2000’s but it hasn’t been there for ages.

word on the street is that the building manager didn’t like Jehovahs witnesses so they couldn’t have the convention there anymore.

That is the standard persecution spin the jws put on everything. I’m sure the building manager likes 💰 so it wouldn’t matter who is paying. My take is that the jws are so fucking cheap and hard to deal with that the building manager just rented it to someone easier to deal with.

I always thought the Saskatoon attendance figures would be a pretty good measure of the health and strength of the organization. At least in my world. A province of 1 million people, 5000 show up to the assembly.

My more generation observation was the moving of assemblies might be more of a shell game to mask any declines in the organization. Just my two cents.

I know the tradition was for the Borg to hold a$$emblies at hockey stadiums throughout Canada.

When you get there,,, people would be distraught on the ""rivers of empty seats".

Yes. Having conventions at smalller venues can be an attempt to mask a shrinking organization.

Your two cents is a safe bet.

I just heard that the regional convention in Huntington WV had a shockingly low attendance. From an expected 2200, the first week had about 1700, and the second week had only 700. Pretty bad, but who wants to go to West Virginia to a convention?

Is it ever fun to attend one of these things?

Just askin' as one who was never "privileged" in that way.

Speaking of which, do non-baptised, non-JWs ever get to attend?

Printed invitations are handed out door to door for 3 weeks before the convention.

    This.

They do the same thing with congregations.

Trying to prove that their chess pieces are still all on the board. They're not losing the numbers game at all.

Photos of convention attendees roped/corralled off posted all over the internet had to be embarrassing for WT or they're too busy gloating about the cheap rental rate negotiated. After all, they're real estate experts.

Bet the papparazzi nazi is on patrol this year - no cell phone photos allowed inside arenas other than designated areas. Another bozo no-no for JWs.

I haven’t been to an in person regional convention since 2019.

I’m going this year to one so I’ll snap a few pics on my cell and see if an attendant shuts me down.
